What a Training Tool Taught Me About Leadership.
This photo is from the MyLFX event in June 2014 — me, a few dozen fitness professionals, a handful of ViPRs, and a head full of ideas that would go on to shape the next decade of my work.
LFX turns 18 this month, and what Graeme Hinde has created is more than an event. It’s a community, a legacy, and a place where curiosity and connection collide. I’m grateful for the opportunities it gave me — including one of my first ViPR workshops.
ViPR — Vitality, Performance and Reconditioning — wasn’t just a training tool. It was a mindset shift. Up to that point, most of my strength training had been predictable, linear, and geared towards my sport. ViPR challenged that. It asked better questions:
How do we prepare people for the unexpected?
How do we build robustness — physically and mentally?
How do we train for life, not just for the gym?
To this day, that acronym still sits behind so much of the work I now do with senior leaders and teams.
☑️ Vitality: Protect your energy.
☑️ Performance: Know when to go all-in.
☑️ Reconditioning: Learn, adapt, bounce forward.
Leadership, like movement, isn’t just about form — it’s about function, resilience, and adaptability.
And sometimes, the most powerful shifts come from rethinking the basics.
Happy 18th to LFX — and here’s to many more years of challenging convention and helping people thrive.
