GFA President Unveils Bold Vision to Revive and Sustain Grassroots Football
The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has outlined a bold and forward-looking vision aimed at reigniting and sustaining football development at the grassroots level across the country.
Speaking in his welcome address, Mr. Simeon-Okraku acknowledged the clear revival of football nationwide, attributing the progress to focused leadership and the collective efforts of a committed GFA Executive Council. He noted that participation has increased at all levels, while confidence in the administration of the game has been significantly restored.
According to the GFA President, the introduction of more national competitions than ever before has created expanded opportunities for players, coaches, referees, and administrators. He added that deliberate and strengthened support from the Executive Council now spans every layer of the game, from grassroots football to the elite level.
Despite the notable investments made so far, Mr. Simeon-Okraku emphasized that substantial work remains. He stressed the importance of consolidating strong fundamentals, particularly in women’s football. The recent introduction of the U-15 Girls Competition, he said, underscores the GFA’s commitment to the long-term development and sustainability of the women’s game.
The President called on all football stakeholders to remain proactive and forward-thinking, noting that sustained growth depends on igniting passion among administrators, players, and fans. He stated that collective enthusiasm and shared responsibility would drive success across the football ecosystem.
As part of efforts to strengthen Regional Football Associations (RFAs), Mr. Simeon-Okraku highlighted the presentation of a pickup vehicle to the RFA Chairman, describing it as a step toward improving operational efficiency. He further outlined plans for all RFAs to operate from fully functional offices capable of managing their various departments effectively.
While commending the Upper West Regional Football Association for its progress, the GFA President emphasized the need for the Association to acquire a permanent office complex. He urged the RFA to secure land with proper documentation to enable the commencement of the project.
He concluded by reminding stakeholders that football development is a shared journey, calling on the entire football family to continue igniting passion, deepening love for the game, and working collectively toward a stronger and more sustainable future.
