It’s taken a little while for my thoughts about this new collection to develop into actual pieces of jewellery. It seems that however many sketches I make, and cardboard prototypes I try, the final pieces are so often quite different from how I originally thought they would be.
It’s an interesting process; but means that I can put my original intentions in my metaphorical back pocket for another time.
The source of the inspiration for this set of jewellery is the little town that, for the past 18 months I have been lucky enough to call home. My aim was to reflect the character of this place, full of its quirky buildings, gritty history, and beautiful green backdrop in a limited collection of pieces. When I portray Wirksworth to people who don’t know it, it isn’t until I describe it as returning to a warm hug, that I feel I have done it justice. And it is this sentiment, also that I was keen to capture in this jewellery.
No two pieces are the same. And some carry a little secret… which, as you will know if you are familiar with the town, is something we never get tired of.
