Middle-aged and still stupidly in love? Same, tbh. 🥀

Russell Kane was on ITV News last night talking about our Romeo & Juliet …and yes, it’s exactly as good as it sounds.

Tag your Romeo. Tag your Juliet. Tag the one who still gives you butterflies even though they leave their **** everywhere.

Nothing breaks your heart like losing your first love. And it hits even harder when it’s taken 40 years to find it.

Russell Kane plays Romeo in this exhilarating new production of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy.

This first love feels like the last chance saloon. When Juliet meets Romeo across a crowded dance floor, sparks fly! Hearts race, desperate for resuscitation from a romance defibrillator.

Can the swagger of experience, and the optimism of youth survive lost loved ones, toxic family members, manipulation and betrayal? Can it endure streets balanced on a knife edge, where sudden violence threatens to erupt at every turn?

Following 2022’s “boisterous, boundary pushing” (★★★★ The Guardian) A Midsummer Night’s Dream and 2024’s Twelfth Night “packed full of laughs and troublemaking” (★★★★ The Times) Not Too Tame join forces with the New Vic for the first time for a retelling of the heartbreaking love story.

SHAKESPEARE MONOLOGUE LAB

📆THURSDAY 26th Feb

⏰ 6 - 8 pm

🗺️ - ARTS BAR Studio 3 - 22 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BY

Come with a monologue.
Leave with a method.

Bring a monologue you know or one you’ve never dared to try.

In this focused two-hour lab, Jimmy Fairhurst works with you to strip away the habits, myths, and ‘Shakespeare voice’ that deflate great speeches into something drab and forgettable. You’ll leave with clear, practical tools you can apply to any classical text, giving you the confidence to understand what’s really happening and how you make it your own - A thrilling monologue that entertains whilst delivering clarity and emotional impact.

As a drama school panellist and an employer, Jimmy sees the same overused speeches delivered in the same beige way. This workshop shows you how to use your own instincts and personality to make bold, specific choices that make panels, directors, and audiences sit up and listen.

Jimmy brings the perspective of a working director, adaptor, and long-time Shakespeare collaborator who knows exactly what decision-makers respond to. Expect precise notes, brave choices, and a way into the language that feels lived-in, truthful, and immediate—not like an archaic museum piece.

Come with a monologue.
Leave with a method.
