This Friday, the historic British Open Curling Championship officially returns to the Dumfries Ice Bowl, and we are bringing the world with us!

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome **14 teams from 7 different countries** to the ice this year. A special shoutout and massive welcome to the teams from **India, Chinese Taipei, and Saudi Arabia**, who will be competing in the British Open for the very first time!

**The Stakes:** It is going to be an incredible weekend of action as this international field battles it out for the historic silverware and a massive **£2,400 total prize purse**. 💰

Trophy with a Story... 🏆

Did you know that when you compete for the British Open Curling Championship, you are chasing a title that dates back to 1945?

The very first British Open was held at the Falkirk Ice Rink while WWII was still ongoing. It wasn't just a local bonspiel—it was a major spectacle. In fact, the first-ever final in February 1945 was watched by a crowd of over 1,500 spectators!

The trophy itself is a stunning 15-inch solid silver bowl of Queen Anne design. Over the decades, it has been lifted by legends of the game, filled with whisky in celebration, and fought for by hundreds of teams—including the 1955 champions, who featured Rena Sellar, the first woman to have her name engraved on the silver.

In April 2026, this historic silverware returns to the ice at Dumfries.
