This feedback warms our hearts!

Thank you to Katie the book elf from Sheffield Reads who kindly donated 50 books to the children who live in refuge, which gave 34 children a book each which was very much appreciated by them and their mums. They are aged between 3 months and 15 years old. The remaining books will be used during our play sessions in refuge or donated to children who move into refuge over the next few months. Thank you so much.

The Brown Street Project' which is the collaborative aspect of Sheff reads where we use the space on Brown street for front facing participatory experimental events, hosted the local sheffield publisher Juno, and their author illustrator event with , which included a reading from her book, and a drawing and collage workshop for young children. While Sheff Reads went full on market trader, as we set up our boxes of donated books outside the shop, as the size of attendees was large in number, and as people left the workshop they had the chance to take books of their choice. We are looking for volunteers and others to experiment with in the space, so do check us out online.

Yesterday we attended the Abbeyfield Park Multicultural Festival in Sheffield, on Sunday the 30th of July, and distributed books for free, aimed mostly at younger readers. Part of the remit is to get people reading together, so parents read to their children, or children read to their parents. We see books not as a solitary activity, but as something that can connect families and communities through the reading experience. The book giving itself is a chance for much discussion, people ask for advice or discuss the genre and type of text they want. If you are interested in our activities, and think they could be of use to where you are in Sheffield, please get in touch. Also, we are seeking volunteers, so do check out our website and handbook for what this could be like.

We are releasing our volunteer handbook. This has information about us as an organisation, and some of the ways you can get involved. The different roles are available as we seek to distribute free books to the people of Sheffield. It's a rewarding experience and is also fun and challenging. You can give as much or as little time as you wish. We hope to reach a wide variety of the public with our free books and assist with the growth of a love of literature for all ages in the city. Help make Sheffield a city of readers. Come volunteer with us. You can download or view the handbook on our volunteers page. https://sheffieldreads.org/volunteer-with-us/

Beautiful day for the Sharrow Festival in Sheffield last Saturday. Where Sheffield Reads distributed free books back into the cultural world of those who attended. We help people find the book they want or even need. We offer advice and make as sure as we can that the correct books get into the right hands. We will let people know about another event coming at the end of the month. We are also looking for volunteers to get involved. It is a personal connection, helping someone discover the joy of a book you directed them to. So get in contact anytime, and think about getting involved and joining the team. This mission is to bring tales, stories, and myths back into people's worlds and let them once more make a narrative journey a page at a time.
