Thanks to Producer Dean Milne for submitting ‘Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled’

to our Documentary Short category

Premise:

At the heart of our film is the story of a community that supports children and adults with disabilities on their journey, providing a variety of activities with a particular focus on horse riding.

Elaine Jeffries, chairperson of Ravelrig RDA, will talk to us about the history of the organisation, its goals and the importance of inclusive activities in today's society. Volunteer Lynn will tell us about her experience, motivation, and involvement in the organisation. We will also show the story of Rachael, a participant and horse rider, and learn how this experience has affected her life and the life of other members.

This film is not only about physical activities, but also about how the community unites and creates a special comfort zone for people who need it, and how you can make a difference.

Premise:

From Scottie Fotré, producer of the Academy Award®-nominated short A Friend of Dorothy, and writer/director Isabel Ion, Dizzy Nights is a surreal, Lynchian descent into the psychology of control.

Locked in a combative silence at a jazz club, Clara and her partner Eric argue over a dress, a drink order, and the invisible boundaries of his influence. As the atmosphere thickens, the club itself seems to turn against Clara — the guests' laughter sours, and a glamorous, mysterious woman watches from the shadows.

Captured in a breathless, unbroken 10-minute shot, this domestic pressure-cooker explodes out of the club and into a dreamlike night. A sudden, ethereal encounter on a dark street pulls Clara back into the jazz club, where she is forced to step out of Eric's suffocating rhythm and find her own beat. Choreographed entirely to an original, 17-minute improvised jazz score, Dizzy Nights uses the fluid metaphor of jazz to chart a woman's crescendo from psychological captivity to a triumphant, hard-won freedom.

Production Note: Written and directed by Isabel Ion, Dizzy Nights represents an end-to-end commitment to women supporting women in the arts. Mirroring its female-driven narrative, the project features a 50% female cast and crew alongside an exclusively female slate of Executive Producers.
