If your goal is to rock those toned and defined arms in that dress, or have your triceps bursting out of your T-shirt then read on.

For me, it’s overhead extensions over kickbacks every time. Here’s why. 👇

❌ The kickback is difficult to progressively load.
As the dumbbells get heavier, keeping your shoulders and upper arms stable becomes the restricting factor.

❌ There’s very little challenge at the bottom. (Stretched position)
When your arm is bent to around 90°, there’s almost no resistance on the triceps.

Now compare that to the lying dumbbell extension…

✅ You’re in a much more stable position.
Instead of fighting to hold your shoulders in place, lying in your back with your elbow joint above your shoulder is a MUCH more stable position.

âś… Your triceps are challenged through more of the movement.
Especially at the bottom, where the kickback gives you very little.

âś… You get more of a stretch on the triceps.
Due to the more flexed shoulder position you are in you will recruit more stretch in the triceps. Specifically the “long head.”

Same dumbbells. Same muscle. Much better exercise.

❌ Kickbacks — I don’t rate them.

✅ Lying dumbbell extensions — a far better choice for building your triceps.

Save this post and tag a friend who wants to raise their tricep game. 🙌

Ranking Fat Loss Foods

Every day, we are faced with many decisions, take option A or take option B.

When it comes to your nutrition choices, don’t just think, “What’s the lowest-calorie choice here?” or “What’s the healthiest choice?”

Think, “Which choice is going to be a vote for the person that I’m trying to become?”

Stack up enough of those choices, and it becomes your identity.

This is what over 3 years of working together looks like.

When Helen first reached out to me in October 2022, she’d reached her “enough is enough” moment.

Perimenopause had hit, she wasn’t feeling like herself, her confidence had taken a knock and she knew something needed to change.

A friend recommended me, she took a chance and sent me a message.

Fast forward to now and she’s 13kg down and, more importantly, she’s maintained it for a long time.

She’s fitter, stronger and so much more confident.

But what I love most about her journey is that she’s LIVED while doing it.

There have been many, many holidays and trips with her amazing husband, Max. Meals out, celebrations and plenty of adventures.

She even travelled over from Germany to stay with me in York. We got to train together in person and, of course, had a night out too.

It hasn’t all been straightforward either.

We’ve worked through injuries, adapted her training, focused on rehab and built her back up so she could return to doing the things she loves, including getting back on the slopes skiing again.

That’s why when I look at these two pictures, I see so much more than 13kg.

I see over 3 years of consistency.

Learning how to navigate real life.

Holidays without guilt.

Working through setbacks.

Getting stronger.

Building confidence.

And understanding that you don’t need to put your life on hold to get results.

The plan has always had to work around the life she wants to live, not the other way around.

That, to me, is what coaching is about.

Getting to know the person. Understanding what they need. Knowing when to push, when to adapt and sometimes when just to listen.

Watching her transformation has been incredible, but seeing the confidence she has now and everything she’s able to go out and DO means even more.

This client relationship became a genuine friendship too.

I’m incredibly proud of you and everything you’ve achieved.

One of the most resilient , strong and wonderful ladies I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

Meet Ruth Bloor

4 stone lost.
Now a size 10.
And stronger than she’s ever been.

But the biggest transformation here isn’t just what you can see in these photos.

It’s the fact that Ruth has finally broken the cycle she thought she was stuck in.

Ruth is a mum of two and a school teacher.

Her life is busy. Her time is limited. And before coming to me, she’d tried pretty much every diet under the sun.

Start a diet.
Lose some weight.
Life gets in the way.
Fall off track.
Feel deflated.
Start again on Monday.

Sound familiar?

After enough attempts, it’s very easy to start believing that maybe you’re the problem.

Ruth didn’t need another restrictive diet or 12-week quick fix.

She needed an approach she could realistically see herself following for the rest of her life.

So when she contacted me, we built everything around her.

Her job.
Her family.
Her lifestyle.
The foods she enjoyed.
And what she could genuinely sustain.

We changed what needed changing without turning her entire life upside down.

And the result?

🔥 4 STONE LOST
đź‘— Now wearing a size 10
đź’Ş Training consistently in the gym
🏋️‍♀️ Chest pressing 15kg dumbbells for 8 reps across 3 sets
🍑 Hip thrusting 85kg for 12 reps

We spent time learning exercises properly, building her confidence and gradually getting stronger.

Now she’s moving weights that the version of Ruth in that first photo probably wouldn’t have believed possible.

As the weight started coming off, something else changed too.

Her identity started changing.

People noticed.

The compliments came.

Clothes fitted differently.

Exercises that once felt intimidating became normal.

And every little win added more fuel to the fire.

Now the goal isn’t simply to make the number on the scales smaller.

We’re on a mission to get Ruth strong as an ox.

More strength.
More muscle.
More confidence.

And we’ll continue bringing her body fat down along the way.
