Run Report - Orpington parkrun #645 30.05.26
Today saw some friends and I take a 40 minute journey across the QE2 Bridge from Essex to Orpington parkrun #645 on a warm, sunny morning. We found parking easy with a mix of spaces in the park's car park and roadside parking. A quick glance around revealed the pink hi-vizs and the navy blue parkrun sign. An immediate warm welcome from a smiley volunteer who chatted to us and asked if we'd visited before. A quick couple of photos taken with the sign followed by a clear, friendly first timers briefing. Then at 09:00 we were set on our way to do the small loop before completing two large laps of the park, all expertly directed by amazing volunteers.
The going was very firm and mostly on grass and dry earth. There were several shady sections, which were much appreciated today. The long section shaded by huge trees was my favourite segment and we watched for the tree roots carefully.
We saw 250 participants and 23 volunteers. Huge thanks to the pink hi-vizs, the tailwalkers in orange and the parkwalkers in blue.
So, some stats: There were 5 first-time-ever parkrun participants and a total of 66 first-timers at Orpington (including me and my friends). We've all achieved 'O' for the Alphabeteer parkrun challenge!
A wide spectrum of ages took part from juniors aged 11 to a gentleman in the 80-84 category proving parkrun is for everyone.
19 people recorded Personal Bests today so very well done in the high temperature.
Club participation included Eynsford RC, Sevenoaks AC, Orpington Road Runners, Havering 90 Joggers, Bishops Stortford RC and Bristol Vet School and other clubs.
Our results were emailed to us swiftly. I'll miss the parkrun text service now it's ended.
Post parkrun we headed to the nearest café for a cuppa and a debrief. Lovely service and comfy surroundings.
Thank you Orpington core team and volunteers for putting on today's event. Wishing a pleasant weekend to you all.🧡🧡🧡
