It was good while it lasted, but is no more. But now there's a permanent Arts Centre in town. See Ashburton Arts and the facbook.com/groups/ashburtonartsgroup for what's happening.

The Royal Oak in Ashburton has reopened today as 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. Facebook thinks it's a 'museum'. The people working there say it's open from 7am for breakfast, until 11pm at night – everyday, until they work out what the best hours will be — serving cafe and pub drinks, with food coming in 7 – 10 days time.

The sad news is that 'Sundays At The Oak' are no more. With huge thanks to Landlord Edric for his support, to all the musicians who played and the audience who came to the 80 gigs that happened between 23 Nov 2014 and 5 June 2016.

The Royal Oak has now been transformed into https://www.facebook.com/thehoundofthebaskervillesuk/ – open every day for food & drink all infused with the spirit of old Ashburton resident Harry Baskerville, who inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's naming of the principle human character in his famous Sherlock Holmes story, while acting as his chauffeur during his Dartmoor forays.

Looking ahead to 3 July, we're really looking forward to hosting the fabulous Mike Hatchard – pianist extraordinaire, who's cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats towing a piano! Here's a quick video of him performing on the night when we heard of Victoria Wood's death – his tribute version of perhaps her most famous song.

At the end of a jazz set with Tazina Frank at Graze on Grand (St Leonards-on-Sea) Mike played this tribute to the wonderful Victoria Wood, who died this week.
