Last week was such ‘a lot’ that I ended up as an art deco fountain.
I’ve got form for putting too much on my plate, thinking it’ll be fine and then regretting it.
Ideasfest was SUCH a ball (more on that to come), but I had agreed to do some client speaking photos and a full photoshoot during the two days.
By the time I got home on Thursday night I was jizzing exhausted
No bother, I’ll just have a nice lay in and keep off of my phone…I had a speaking gig on Friday night, so needed to be rested for it.
Funny thing was, after walking round a festival for two days and taking photos of more people than I expected…a lay in didn’t much help.
Not only did it not much help, but I woke up too late to take my ADHD meds on Friday.
The event was a Great Gatsby themed charity event for the wonderful Katy Longhurst and her AskJoan app that’s a silent alarm for people in domestic violence situations.
I dressed up as a massive flapper and drove to the venue, already overwhelmed from the days before and lack of meds.
I sat watching the talks before mine (I was put on last so I could ‘start the party’) and in my chaos I’d forgotten that people would be talking about DV.
I hadn’t prepared myself, my brain, my triggeringness and I sat there sobbing…sniffing like a 10 year old boy with a cold.
I breathed through it, ate many sweets, glugged back a Kraken and was introduced onto the stage.
My speaking style, especially when it comes to Female Five Million, is pretty upbeat. I’m funny. I take no s**t and I swear.
I’m me, basically.
I told the story of how FFM started, how it grew, how it snowballed, and how, after the exhibition, I basically had a breakdown from all the amazing women’s awful stories and my own.
I started crying on the stage and Katy came and sat with me.
I am nothing of not real.
I beat myself up for getting emotional on stage, but whenever I do I get people coming up to me afterwards really resonating with the story.
I’m not sure that’s how you’re SUPPOSED to do talks, but it seems to be what works with connection.
And then I start the party.
What would you prefer to watch - a polished talk, or me with feels?
