Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Towton, fought on a bitterly cold 29th March 1461.

I created my well-known large oil painting of the battle in 2002 after a visit to the battlefield on the anniversary that year in the company of a group of archers – my recollections are of seeing the strength and technique required to shoot these powerful bows, and being really cold despite layers of warm clothing!

This painting is available as a print – on paper and a special canvas edition – and as a card. See my Studio88 website for details of this and all my Towton prints (see comments)

It also features in my book THE WARS OF THE ROSES: The Medieval Art of Graham Turner, signed copies of which are available from me through my website.
