We are delighted to welcome Charlie Stuart as a guest speaker to our History Tent at The Victory Show.
Charlie Stuart is an amateur battlefield tour guide, and avid historian. He lives in Brussels and, when not otherwise travelling, he spends much of his time researching in the Ardennes region of Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. Earlier in 2025, following the announcement by the U.S. Secretary State for Defense of the renaming of Fort Bragg, Charlie’s research on PFC Roland Bragg’s story formed the basis of the speech given by U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Gregory Anderson, commanding general XVIII Airborne Corps during the renaming ceremony.
His book, ‘Hold at all Costs’ is the story of chaos and consequence in the Bulge, which seeks to re-evaluate the reasons for the failure of the German offensive in the Ardennes in 1944. It is his first book and it’s due for publication through Amberley Publishing this year!
Charlie is a senior European diplomat currently serving as the EU’s Chief Security Advisor on Africa.
Charlie’s wide-ranging and successful career in international relations includes serving as the EU’s Head of Delegation in Tanzania and, before that, as the Deputy Ambassador in Iraq. He served a nine-year career in the British Army in the Scots Guards, retiring as a Major. During this time, he saw operational service in Operation Desert Storm and in Northern Ireland. Subsequently, he qualified as a corporate attorney, practising for ten years before joining the EU.
Charlie’s talk on Saturday 5th September will focus on Bulge – attrition, munition and friction. His talk and in conversation with TheStanduphistorian on Sunday 6th September will focus on The Battle of Bulge – The German Plan doomed to fall from inception.
