Been working through my snagging list from Bala Lake Railway / Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid's exhibition, to get ready for the Deganwy Railway Modellers exhibition in Llandudno in a few weeks and one of the things on the list was; "wagon weight?".
I often get problems with trains derailing, and know that adding weight to wagons can make them more reliable. Bit how much to add, I have always just guessed / what felt about right. Yeh, not very good really, I guess.
I did some reasurch and found that OO wagons should be about 5g per 10mm of length.
So today I took it apon myself to measure the lenght and weight of all my current stock. I realised they were all well under, but OO wagons are bigger than OO9, right? So I roughly worked out that OO9 wagons should be about 2.8g per 10mm. This seems about right against my collected data, 80% were within 6g of what they should be, a few (where I had guessed) where bang on and it has identified some of the possible, problimatic ones, where I need to add abot 10g to.
Anyone know any better? Your experience / knowlege will be greatly appreciated.
