Running through the night to help others

On the 16th April 2020 Alistair "Ally K" Macpherson will attempt to run 180 miles from Glasgow to Inverness in under 70 hours to raise funds for Highland Hospice. His route will take him along the West highland way leading to Fort William and the great Glen Way before joining the road beside Lochness and running the Lochness Marathon route before finishing in Inverness.

To date Ally has raised £78,000 for cancer charities. On this occasion Ally has chosen to support Highland Hospice. The charity is dedicated to supporting not only cancer suffers but also their families who also need support and help with the stress and emotional burden that a cancer can bring.

Ally is an Ultra Endurance athlete and has competed in numerous events around Scotland. During this time he has also completed many fundraising events including becoming the first man in history to run around the Isle of Skye and running from Portree to Inverness non-stop to raise funds and awareness for Maggies Highlands.

For his third challenge Ally ran across 10 Islands in 2 days raising funds for Macmillan. He faced challenging conditions on this run but despite this ran strong and raised £18,000 for the charity.

Now on his fourth fundraising event Ally has turned his attention to helping Highland Hospice. Highland Hospice aim to support people, their families and carers, living with an advancing, life shortening illness in the Highlands and to live the best possible life and to prepare for and experience the best possible death. By managing pain and other physical symptoms, they help make time and space for reflection, for gaining perspective and for achieving a measure of calm and tranquillity. Crucially, their team also offer advice with the emotional, social and spiritual issues that may arise and work with patients and loved ones at a time of transition to help them enjoy, value and commemorate life.

Speaking of his decision to fundraise for the charity Ally commented “I have decided to run this event to raise funds for Highland Hospice. The charity do wonderful work supporting those in need in the Highlands and I am delighted to raise funds to support them.”

The epic run takes place on the 16th April 2020 and will involve Ally and a small support team running through several nights to try and be in Inverness in under 70 hours.

Speaking of the challenge Ally commented “This event is the longest and most challenging I will have attempted yet. I will run through several nights and this will be a huge test of my mental strength to keep going. I have plenty of experience and a great support team to get me to the finish. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully raise some much needed funds for Highland Hospice.”

A Justgiving page for the event will go live in January. Until then Ally will be training hard preparing himself physically and mentally for his biggest challenge yet.
