ble support the clubs ethos to make the event attractive to all levels of sportive rider where you can pick the route that suits your level of riding or for those looking for their next challenge, the White Rose Classic offers this variation. All the routes will weave you around the Yorkshire dales allowing you take in the amazing scenery whilst navigating the various lumps, bumps and the odd climb or two. The Yorkshire Dales is considered the UKs' cycling Mecca to many, so when you ride our routes you will gain an insight to why the 2014 Tour de France, Tour de Yorkshire and the UCI world championships in 2019 came to Yorkshire. Once finished you can relax in the post ride village with your fellow riders, enjoy a drink and some food, friends and family are more than welcome to join you. We provide onsite free parking, fully signed routes, first aid support, fully stocked feed stops and mechanical support and all finishers will receive a finishers medal. Organised and run entirely by volunteers from Ilkley Cycling Club along with their friends & family. The event is a ‘Not for Profit’ sportive and any profits from the event are re-invested in to the event and promoting grassroots cycling initiatives, local charities including Nell Bank and supporting our own youth development programme, along with encouraging more men and women to ride bikes as per the club motto "From Recreation to Racing.”

ENTRIES ARE OPEN FOR THE 2026 EDITION OF THE WHITE ROSE CLASSIC

We have also taken the opportunity to revamp the routes for the next edition, with the Epic route now dropping in to the Heart of Wensleydale. We have 4 routes to chose from which we are hoping gives a wider variety and differing challenges. The route maps, mileage and ascent are live on the White Rose Classic website https://whiteroseclassic.org.uk/ but here are some snippets:

The routes are 35miles, 70miles, 98miles and 124 miles
Norwood Edge climb has been removed which means that the whole section round to Grassington has also been removed 😲

Making this change allows the following to be introduced: Kidstones Pass and Buttertubs Pass on to the Epic route!

- The Intermediate route (70 miles) will now take in Halton Gill and Albert Hill
- The Challenge route (98 miles) will go up Fleet Moss, climb out of Hawes towards the Ribblehead viaduct and Albert Hill
- The Epic Route (124 miles) will now go up Kidstones Pass, round Aysgarth Falls and over Cross Top road round to Buttertubs, on to Hawes, Garsdale Head/Coal Road, Dent Head road & Albert Hill.

All routes including the short will climb out of Burnsall and the final climb of the day, Langbar. (yes, Langbar is back in on all routes!)

This means all riders head out to the Grassington feed stop together with a slight route split at Hartlington Raikes road, and after Grassington the routes will split before joining back after Hawes and Settle.

Epic Route update

We hope your training has gone well and you are now tapering off in preparation for the event next Sunday.

One of the planned route changes we had made for the Epic route has to be removed due to roadworks / road closure. For those that have ridden the Epic, (long) route in recent years you may be happy with the revision as we now need to take back via Deepdale in to Ingleton and on to Clapham.

We had planned to turn you left at Lea Yeat, which is the T-junction when you descend Coal Road from Garsdale Head, and then take you up and under Dent Head Viaduct and then straight under the Ribblehead viaduct. But due to a landslide just before the Dent Head viaduct which was until recently impassible to anyone on foot, bike or vehicle, North Yorkshire council have since allowed walkers to navigate this area but we can not risk allowing you to cycle this way. This is because our first aid vehicles cannot get through and if they is an incident on the other side the first aid vehicles will need to turn around and loop back around towards Hawes, which is approx 20-30 minute drive.

Therefore, we will now turn you right at the T-junction in Lea Yeat and take you through Deep Dale towards Ingleton, once at Ingleton we will loop you around the village centre as there is their annual 1940’s weekender in the village which means access to the village road through the centre is restricted to event traffic/participants - please respect this.

This alteration adds on an extra 2miles to the route and an extra 500ft of climbing.

Those already entered on to the Epic route have been communicated to and sent the GPX file via Ride with GPS. As we will not be updating the website so close to the event day, any new entries on to the Epic route will be communicated to individually.

Those waiting for the 2025 road book, this will issued within the next 24 hours.
