ON EDGE & FRIGHTENED
Thanks to Urban Explorers posting their photos and videos on socials, we’ve had endless unwanted visits this week. Some we’ve fended off, others have snuck through.
Apparently, there’s a moral code among UrbExers: whilst they ignore signs saying “private” or “dangerous building - keep out” - if there’s a sign saying “NO URBAN EXPLORERS” it’s meant to be respected.
They are also meant to explore buildings without leaving a trace of their visit.
Not so at Shermanbury.
It takes just one person to trespass, post it online, and then the floodgates open for other explorers.
Instead of relaxing with our children on a Sunday, today we’ve been dealing with the latest break in.
Garage doors pulled off their hinges, windows broken, blocked up holes unblocked, padlocks pulled off the hasps. To insult us, a picture was pulled out of the house and placed next to one of our “private” signs. I’m sure they were having a great laugh.
We are a female team at Shermanbury, we are on edge and scared. We worry about the safety of our elderly tenant who lives next door to the buildings.
We all have the right to live in peace, without the fear of complete strangers entering our properties, taking photos, posting them online and encouraging others to visit.
Some of these buildings are dangerous. Nobody should be going in there. The decay is not my fault - it’s the legacy of my incompetent forebears - and I’m trying to rectify it bit by bit.
Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Shermanbury Place is our home and we would like to be left in peace.
Thank you.
