Day 2 of Hadrian’s Wall walk
Exhausted!!!! 17 miles and not very nice weather ( though we never really got wet)
Much more interesting than day 1
Start was supposed to be Portgate but the bus broke down a mile from there!!!
No worries- find the nearest footpath and off we go.
Finished at Housesteads car park- the bus parked in the furthest corner to make sure we had done enough!
Thank you Felix Andy and Chris for leading and Bea for the amazing lemon cake and jelly babies just before lunch

Walk 12: Gilsland Circular. Perfect weather for the 7.5 mile walk from Gilsland to The Popping Stones via Willowford and Birdoswald. Great company and a nice pint at the Samson Inn to rehydrate 👍 — in Gilsland.

A huge shout out of thanks to
P H Guided Walks ( Pete) , Mary Imlah, Gwen Marples, Rob Pegg, the Miller family from Airy Holme, and the wonderful paramedics who attended within 30 minutes of our 999 call
Walk 14 from Snods Edge was supposed to be a gentle five miler before our lovely afternoon tea from the Shotley WI ladies
However one lady became poorly at the lunch stop.
The training our volunteers received kicked in and hopefully the lady will be alright.
It was all made much easier with the invaluable help of those mentioned

I think I will try to visit this event- looks an interesting programme

19 of us went on the walk from Wall to Liddells Nature Reserve. This is a private reserve near Fallowfield Fell.

The walk set off well. When we arrived at the reserve Bob and Clare were not there to greet us. They expected us in May! (Their mistake and they quickly rectified it.)

We had coffee in their large hut and heard a lot about the 17 acre reserve. Then we split into 2 groups to go and look at all the different aspects. There is a wood, a wildflower meadow, a 4 acre hay meadow, 2 ponds and extra ponds that come and go, 5 sites of previous mining.

They do surveys of the birdlife, the bees, the butterflies and the wildflowers. There are wildlife cameras around to document the residents (badgers, deer, otters passing through, and more)

Yellow rattle was beginning to grow in abundance on the hay meadow and the wildflower meadow.
