Galoshans was a piece of folk theatre performed in many parts of Scotland. The men of the town would dress up and chap on the doors of the houses to perform their story of death and resurrection. They would be rewarded with sweets and fruits or perhaps money and a wee dram.
Sound familar? The tradition is alive and well after all this time, only now it's usually called 'guising' or 'trick or treating'. In Inverclyde though, the phrase 'Going Galoshans' has survived.
Take part in this years Galoshans Arts Festival in Greenock with a host of work by Steer Projects and many more dotted around the town. 28th - 30th October. See you there!
