REPORT: Records tumble at South Wales and Scottish VTTA 100 Championships

Fair conditions led to fast times at the Welsh 100-Mile Championship, which incorporated the Scottish and South Wales VTTA Championships.
Dundee Thistle’s Angus Wilson made his long journey worthwhile with a winning performance in Monmouthshire, where the R100/9 proved fast with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine.
Wilson won the Scottish VTTA title with an age-adjusted time (AAT) of 3:19.41 to win the Reilly Trophy.
Meanwhile fastest Scottish VTTA female was Christina Mackenzie (Stirling Bike Club) who, along with Wilson, also set new Scottish VTTA age records.
In the South Wales VTTA Championship Anthony Jones (FTP Fulfil the Potential Race Team) took the title with an age-adjusted time of 3:20.34.
And among the other records set was one for VTTA National Executive Committee member Jon Fairclough, who set a new Scottish record of 4:44.34 at the age of 72!

Huge congratulations to Christina Lejogmack, who stormed home in an incredible 4:09 today to set a new SVTTA 100-mile record! 🥳🚴‍♀️

What makes this performance even more special is the journey behind it. If you’ve been following Christina’s story, you’ll know it hasn’t been a straight path. There have been challenges, setbacks, and moments that would have made many people give up.

But resilience isn’t about never facing adversity - it’s about continuing to show up, trusting the process, and putting one consistent training session on top of another.

Today’s result is a reflection of that commitment. A fantastic ride and a thoroughly deserved record.

Proud of you and proud to have been part of your journey Christina. 👏

5 years ago today, I rolled out of Land’s End with no guarantees, just a quiet belief that I could turn 839 miles into something bigger than myself.

51 hours and 5 minutes later, at John O’ Groats, I’d set a Guinness World Records and Road Records Association… but the real victory was discovering what happens when you refuse to stop.

That ride changed how I look at challenge. It taught me that you don’t need perfect conditions or perfect confidence, you just need to start, keep moving, and deal with whatever shows up on the road.

I’m still proud of that version of me. And still grateful for everyone who kept me upright when I was hanging.
