Our aim is to widen awareness and increase participation in what is already one of the most popular and successful sports in Scotland. Bowls Scotland currently has over 820 affiliated member clubs and almost 50,000 members.

๐Ÿ‘ International Assessment Weekend Attendees Confirmed

Following the conclusion of this yearโ€™s Podium Open events, Bowls Scotland is pleased to confirm the players and directors who have progressed to the 2026 International Assessment Weekend.

Taking place at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June, a total of 92 players and directors will be involved across the Menโ€™s, Womenโ€™s and Para programmes.

Congratulations to everyone invited to attend, and best of luck for the next stage of the selection process.

There's still time to enter the 2026 European Open, with the closing date now extended to Sunday 14 June.

Open to any two players from any club or nation, the competition returns to the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr this July, featuring a round robin format on day one followed by knockout stages on day two.

We are seeking an Inclusion Development Officer to lead and support the development of equality, diversity and inclusion across bowls in Scotland. This role focuses on creating a more inclusive sport by supporting clubs to build welcoming environments, remove barriers to participation and reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.

Working closely with clubs, volunteers, Bowls Scotland staff and external partners, you will help embed inclusive practices and deliver targeted initiatives that increase participation from underrepresented groups. You will play a key role in driving cultural change across the sport, ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do.

Bowls Scotland is delighted that the World Bowls Championships will be hosted by Bowls England from 20 July to1 August 2027.

Commenting on the announcement of dates for the Championships, Bowls Scotland CEO, Malcolm Dingwall-Smith said,
"With the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month and confirmation that the World Bowls Championships will return to the Northern Hemisphere for the first time since 2004, this promises to be a fantastic 12 months for British bowls.

Bowls Scotland and our players are already looking forward to the event. We hope that lots of Scottish supporters will take the opportunity to travel down to Royal Leamington Spa to watch world class bowls and back the team."

The countdown is officially on!

The 2027 World Bowls Championship will head to Royal Leamington Spa, England from 20 July - 1 August 2027.

Over 27 nations will compete across Menโ€™s, Womenโ€™s and Para events as the sportโ€™s biggest names battle to become World Champions on one of bowlsโ€™ most iconic stages.

The Championship returns to the Northern Hemisphere for the first time since 2004 and promises 12 days of world class competition, atmosphere and global celebration of the sport.

The latest winner of the Bowls Scotland National Volunteer Awards is Michael Roche from Baillieston Bowling Club.

โ€œVolunteers are the backbone of the bowls community. They keep clubs running, support players at every level, and help maintain the traditions and welcoming environment that make bowls so special.โ€

A well-known and respected figure across Glasgow and Lanarkshire, Michael has been recognised for his outstanding long service to Baillieston BC, having contributed as a player, coach, committee member, former Club Secretary and now Honorary Secretary.

From coaching junior members and supporting players, to playing a key role in the clubโ€™s centenary celebrations, Michaelโ€™s dedication has helped strengthen Baillieston BC both on and off the green.
