Challenge 2015

Challenge 2015 'Year of Challenge’ to raise for Brain Tumour Research, in memory of Andrew Robinson.

I am completing a ‘Year of Challenge’ in order to raise valuable funds for Brain Tumour Research, inspired by Andrew Robinson who passed away from a brain tumour in 2014 aged 27. I am completing 3 half marathons and a Lands End to John O’Groats cycle ride.
· Leeds half marathon – May 10th
· Chester half marathon – May 17th
· Lands End to John O’Groats – set off July 20th (Andrew’s Birthday)
· Grea

t North Run – 13th September

Andrew was diagnosed in December 2012 and was given a 10% chance of survival. He underwent an intensive course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and battled on maintaining a positive outlook despite the odds being stacked against him. Andrew was passionate about sport, being active and taking on challenges so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to remember him and celebrate his life by doing something that he would have loved. I have two mad friends joining me for the Lands End to John O’Groats bike ride, Megan and Rob, one a keen cyclist and one who was drunk when I asked her! We will be publishing our root on here if anyone wishes to:
· join us for a morning/afternoon/day of cycling
· meet us for breakfast/lunch/dinner
· put us up for the night
· be a support vehicle/encouraging presence
… then please let us know! We hope that you will take the time to sponsor us to raise much needed funds for a disease which affects around 16,000 new families each year, yet receives only 1% of national cancer research spending. Brain Tumours – the facts from Brain Tumour Research:
· More children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumour than from any other cancer.
· 16,000 people each year are diagnosed with a brain tumour.
· Just under 20% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond five years, compared with an average of 50% across all cancers.
· One in 50 people who are dying under the age of 60, die of a brain tumour.
· Unlike most other cancers, incidences of deaths from brain tumours are becoming more prevalent (and are much more common now than in 1970). For more information about Brain Tumour Research visit www.braintumourresearch.org, email [email protected] or call the office on 01296 733011.

About to head off to Whitehaven so that we can begin our little warm down challenge of cycling Coast 2 Coast. Day 1 (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/9795337) sees us take on over 6000ft of climb, our most ever, and Day 2 (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/9795403) should, well, be nice and easy! If you got involved with following us on LEJOG then hopefully you'll enjoy following us again for the next couple of days and remember, sponsorship can be made at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/challenge2015

Thank you all for your congratulations, well wishes, likes and kind comments. We couldn't have completed our LEJOG adventure without the help and support of so many people (who will be named and thanked in due course!). We've traveled 1021.5 miles, been through 3 countries and shared the roads with some of the worst drivers out there. We've been soaked to the skin more often than not, but we've also been shown a smattering of sunshine when we needed it the most. And we've done all this for one reason. Most of you have shown amazing generosity so far with your donations, but if you still haven't sponsored us then we've done our bit, so you can feel free to do yours: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/challenge2015. Stay tuned for more photos, videos and updates from our adventure as Rachel begins her training for the great north run!

Rachel Robinson, Megan Burns, Robert Burns is raising money for Brain Tumour Research. Sponsor them with Virgin Money Giving.
