On Wednesday four of us from WAGs met Marcus the new Southwest Lakes Trust ranger for Burrator Reservoir to discuss access issues around the reservoir. Afterwards Andy and I went up above the reservoir, to look at another path along side the Devonport Leat. Were we stopped for lunch, enjoying the views of the reservoir and the surrounding hills.

On Monday 14th April I attended the official opening of the new boardwalk, on Blackpool Sands near Dartmouth. The beach owner Geoffrey Newman worked with South Devon National Landscape to get the boardwalk installed. The panels used are made in Devon, using recycled soft plastic like crisp packets etc. BBC Spotlight did a feature with me on my Tramper, Tony who was on a smaller mobility scooter and a lady who was in a manual wheelchair.

Today was the first time I have been out on my Tramper, since early September and guess what, it rained. We met up with fellow WAGs member Gordon, and Russell from Devon Wildlife Trust, at Ludwell Valley Park Exeter. DWT have put in 6 new gates, which they wanted our opinion on. The problem is that a farmer grazes cattle there during the spring and summer, so these new gates will be locked shut, and locked open in the winter. This means mobility scooter users will be denied access, for 6 months of the year.

Gill took a tumble the other day, luckily no serious injuries. It's taken four days for all the bruising to appear, we spent 1 hour at Tiverton hospital, then 5.5 hours at A&E Exeter. The fall happened at 1455 and we got home 2345, so it was a long day doing nothing most of the time.

Here are a few photos from yesterdays WAGs ramble at Haytor. We started off in the rain, but by lunchtime it had started to clear. We made our way around the eastern edge of Haytor Quarry to the Granite Tramway, which we followed to Holwell Quarry. Were we stopped for lunch, on the way back we went into Haytor Quarry. When we started out, there was a Fire & Rescue team on a training exercise.

Today after lunch we did a short spur of the moment visit to the Mamhead Obelisk, with the shopping scooter for Gill. As it is such a short distance to the view point, I was able to walk. And most importantly 90% of the walk was in shade.

Yesterday Gill and I went to the Swans Nest for lunch, and on to Powderham on the Exe Estuary Trail. Found a nice shady spot under a Oak tree in a field opposite Powderham Church, for a coffee. Below are a few pics of the day.

We had a lovely day out on Friday, organised by Gordon. We did a section of the Exe Estuary Trail, from Darts Farm to Lympstone. We stopped for lunch at Lympstone harbour, with lovely views of the Exe Estuary and Powderham on the far side of the Estuary. Sunshine was in short supply, but every one enjoyed the day. We had 7 mobility scooters, and 4 walkers, below are a few pics from the day.

I did my first off road outing, in over 4 months, I found the short section of rough track very uncomfortable. Started from Stover Country Park, heading south to Newton Abbot, then returning to Stover CP for lunch, finding a nice shady spot in the woods. After lunch I headed north to Bovey Tracey, as it was a really hot day, I was grateful that most of route had good tree shade. At Stover CP there is a lot of building work next to the car park, they are also dredging the lake so a couple of tracks are closed. But it didn't spoil the day.

Finally we have had some warm dry sunny weather. Yesterday Gill & I went out for a pub lunch from home, on the buggies first time this year. Today we had a picnic lunch over looking one of the ponds, at the RSPB Matford Marshes reserve. It was a lovely sheltered spot, so lovely and warm in the sunshine.
