⚓️🚢🔔This weekend brings the final event of this year’s festival - Bells and Whistles parade on Saturday will celebrate unique Royal Docks traditions, including the sounding of ships horns and bells out across the water on New Years Eve. 🎊

🌊🛳️⚓️ The first image shows ’s amazing mural which captures local people’s stories and memories of the area’s heritage, including the celebrations on “Old Year’s Night”.

🎨 Sonia Boyce’s epic ‘Newham Trackside Wall’ mural is the longest public artwork in Europe covering almost 2km!

🎨🖌️✒️ A Madge Gill appreciation post 😍

🙌 For , Rabbits Road Press commissioned artists Amandine Forest-Aguié, Maryam Huq, Jo Wood, and Maryam Adam to create new Risograph artworks inspired by the heritage legacy of Newham’s famous former resident, artist Madge Gill.

✨The works go on show today at Rabbits Road Press’ studios in Old Manor Park Library - book one of the last tickets at the link in bio, or grab a set of the Riso postcard artworks in Newham’s libraries this week!

🐴🐖🐑 Journey through the story of Newham City Farm from royal openings and volunteer joys, to the campaign to save it from closure in ‘Straight from the Horse’s Mouth’ at Beckton Globe Library.

🐐🐰🐏 Curated Alison McLucas, the multimedia exhibition includes oral histories from local people involved with the farm, photos and letters from ’s visit, personal mementos, photos, and more.

🌊🚢 Art in Docks’ ‘Bells and Whistles’ project is researching Royal Docks heritage traditions, including the ringing out of ships’ bells and sounding of ships’ horns across the water on New Years Eve that continued for generations.

👉 Scroll through some of the images of Royal Docks over the decades from Newham’s Archive, from an 1854 illusion of the construction of Royal Victoria Dock, to Connaught Road in 1905, and boats in the Docks on the 1950s.
