We're pleased to announce that Shannon Brady has been appointed as Operations Manager – Front of House & Facilities.

This appointment reflects Shannon's hard work, dedication and the valuable contribution she has made to our operations.

Congratulations, Shannon and we look forward to seeing all you'll achieve in this exciting new position.

Shannon said:

“It's a little surreal, but I'm incredibly proud that I have started a new role as Operations Manager (Front of House and Facilities) at the University of Warwick.

Eighteen years ago, I joined Warwick as a Casual Cleaning Assistant at Radcliffe. Within a month, I was offered a permanent role and began a journey that has taken me through so many different areas of the business.

From Housekeeping Supervisor at Scarman, to Assistant Front of House Manager at Arden in 2016, and later returning to support operations across Radcliffe and Scarman, every role has taught me something valuable and helped shape the leader I am today.

In 2022, I stepped into the role of Front of House and Facilities Manager, which felt like a dream role because it combined my love of working with people and delivering great customer experiences with my passion for facilities, maintenance and project work.

What makes this latest step even more meaningful is the return of Housekeeping to the Conferences team after 10 years. It never felt quite right to me that they sat outside the operation when they are such an important part of what we do. Welcoming them back and working together as one team again is something I am incredibly proud of.

This new role is truly a dream come true, and I feel very lucky to work every day with such an amazing group of people. Here's to the next chapter!"

Planning a more sustainable event starts with understanding where your impact comes from.

Our article explores practical ways event organisers can reduce the carbon footprint of their events, from venue choice and food to waste and digital tools.

To support this, our Carbon Calculator helps planners measure the impact of day delegates, 24-hour delegates, B&B guests and dinners.

The tool also breaks down emissions across areas such as food, energy and linen, and highlights opportunities to reduce impact, including choosing vegan options and skipping room cleans.

🌱 Sustainability in action

Together with our guests, we're reducing water, energy and laundry consumption across campus.

During the last University financial year, we had 6,463 "Skip My Room Clean" requests across our conference centres, helping to save an estimated 8,467 kgCO₂e.

To put that into perspective, that's roughly equivalent to 2,822 miles travelled in a standard petrol car.

By making small changes together, we're reducing our environmental impact and continuing to make progress towards a more sustainable campus.

An award-winning chef with an exceptional track record, Ryan has continually showcased his talent, creativity and dedication to culinary excellence. From being crowned Senior UK Conference Chef of the Year at the Copper Skillet Competition twice, to securing Bronze at this year's TUCO Competition, his achievements speak for themselves.

Ryan's passion for the industry, commitment to his craft and drive to succeed have made him a standout member of the team. This promotion is thoroughly deserved and we are incredibly proud of everything he has accomplished.

Congratulations Ryan, on this fantastic achievement. We can't wait to see what you'll achieve next! 🎉🏆

🏆 A huge congratulations to Eden Bratt on becoming the Junior UK Copper Skillet Champion 2026! 🏆

Eden first joined Warwick on a work experience placement from Birmingham College of Food and has since become a valued member of our team.

Competing in the Copper Skillet competition for the first time, Eden impressed the judges with her creativity, technical skill and ability to perform under pressure. The competition challenged chefs to create a professional dish from a mystery box of ingredients using just two camping stoves and limited equipment. Eden's winning dish of marinated chicken and tofu with spiced orzo pasta secured first place.

We're incredibly proud of Eden's achievement and her commitment to continually developing her skills as a chef. 👏

Next stop: Germany, where she will represent the UK in the European Copper Skillet Final at the Europe Knowledge Festival this October.

It was a real honour for Warwick Conferences to host the British Chess Championships at the University of Warwick, welcoming more than 1,000 players from across the UK for one of the country's longest-running and most prestigious sporting events.

Held from 1–9 August, the 112th edition of the Championships brought together competitors from under-8s through to seniors, reflecting both the scale and significance of the event.

We were proud to provide the setting for a championship that continues to grow, with thEnglish Chess Federation noting that Warwick offers the “facilities, experience and chess pedigree needed to support that growth”.

With modern event spaces, excellent transport links and a strong track record in delivering major events, it was a privilege to play a part in bringing this nationally significant competition to campus.
