Statement on the Cancellation of Wackadoo Pride After Party 2026
Wackadoo was founded as a grassroots q***r entertainment event. a space created by me to celebrate and showcase the incredible talent within our local q***r community and beyond. Over the years, it’s been a place where q***r performers, artists, and audiences could come together freely and unapologetically to experience q***r art that often doesn’t get the platform it deserves in North Wales
Despite the love and energy that always surrounds Wackadoo, the event has faced ongoing challenges and logistical conflicts over time and often pushback from the organisers of pride themselves.
I’ve personally funded aspects of the show in previous years, with ticket sales covering a portion of the costs. Unfortunately, this year it’s simply not financially feasible to make it happen sustainably.
I am really proud of what I have achieved. I set out with the goal of making a fun safe space for q***r art and expression in North Wales. When I moved here from Birmingham 10 years ago, it was apparent to me that this is the kind of place that people move away from to experience q***r acceptance. So I took it upon myself to start wackadoo And create a space for myself to perform in as well as platforming others and supporting local business and bringing in thousands of pounds of profit for local business.
I will never forget our first show when a trans man got up on stage and exclaimed how nothing like this ever happened here and how safe they felt and they revealed their top of surgery scars to the audience to Ruckus applause that singular experience shaped Wackadoo and it is why I do it. Over the years people have been employed by me contracted by me and also supported me on this endeavour and to those people. You are so loved and thank you so much.
This decision doesn’t come from a place of blame or negativity. It’s purely a matter of practicality and self-care. I hope that Wackadoo’s spirit of q***r creativity, visibility, and community continues to inspire others to make space for q***r art in all its forms.
Thank you to everyone who has performed, supported, and danced with us over the years. Wackadoo has always been made possible by the passion and authenticity of our community, and that’s something I’ll always be proud of.
With love,
Nykolas Shipway
