2012 REACT FOUNDATION, IMECHE BURSARY and FOUNDATION YEAR 11 WINNERS announced.
The winners of the Bursaries and Year 11 winners were announced at the Beacon in Whitehaven last night. Parents and teachers joined the students in the celebrations.

The REACT Foundation awarded two £3,000 bursaries to local students Kyran Clark of Keswick School and Helena Tranter of Cockermouth School. Samuel Cole of Cockermouth School picked up the IMechE West Cumbria Bursary of £1,000.

The REACT Foundation Year 11 Awards were made to the following school's pupils - Beacon Hill - Jack Askew; Cockermouth -Matthew Beresford; Keswick - Sam Snyder; Millom - Will King; Netherhall - Adam Wozencroft; Solway - Hanna Kent; Southfield - Grant Park; St Bees - Jane Fell; St Benedict's - Joshua Cunningham
St Joseph's - Liam Cooper; Stainburn - Sam Bradley; Westlakes - William Houghton and Whitehaven - Tristian Doyle.

Heading for university in September 2012? Studying Engineering or a related degree? Fancy winning £3,000? West Cumbrian Students are invited to apply for the REACT Foundation Bursary Award 2012. There is an additional £1,000 bursary available courtesy of IMechE West Cumbria if you plan to study Mechanical Engineering – just tick the box on the REACT Foundation Bursary Application. Don’t hang around though – the closing date is 31st January 2012.

Year 11 Awards 2012
£200 is up for grabs for West Cumbrian Yr 11 Students. The REACT Foundation Year 11 Award Closing date is 31st January 2012. If you are heading for 6th form and planning to study Maths and a Science / Product Design Subject you can apply on line for your school’s £200 prize.

The REACT Foundation Science & Engineering Shows 2011 - its almost time for the Science & Engineering Roadshow 2011. Primary and secondary schools from all over West Cumbria will be attending the shows at a number of venues w/c 26th September. 2,000 Year 6 Students will watch the Bubble Show, 2,000 Year 9 Students will see The Supercool Show and Bubbles will be visiting Mayfield School.

Day 2 of Into Engineering is over - the teams have worked hard today. The morning sessions included Structural Analysis - the Maths was hard! Lots of calculations to get your head round .. and the late afternoon session was Environmental - why do engineers need to consider the environment

REACT's Into Engineering - After lunch Rowan Matthews and Steve Turner delivered a presentation on Engineering Design to the students. The two teams now have to work their way through the tasks associated with each stage of the engineering design process to identify and develop a solution to the problem they have been presented with.
