The Green Team were crowned champions of the Chet Cup 2026 with a convincing 5-1 victory in what was undoubtedly the most competitive and entertaining Chet Cup yet.
Despite the final scoreline, the game was much tighter than it sounds for long periods. The Greens led 1-0 for what felt like an age before finally extending their advantage to two. To their credit, the Yellow Team battled back and grabbed a deserved goal to make a game of it.
Then came one of the defining moments of the night.
The Yellows were awarded a penalty and had the perfect opportunity to level things up… unfortunately the ball cleared the crossbar, disappeared into the night sky, and reportedly still hasn’t been found.
At the other end, the Green Team weren’t exactly clinical either. A number of ambitious efforts towards goal nearly took out an ice cream van, a couple of wing mirrors and possibly local air traffic control before they eventually found the target often enough to pull away as tired legs and stretched play opened the game up late on.
Most importantly, the evening once again proved exactly what the Chet Cup is all about. Football, friendship, remembering a mate, and bringing people together to support men’s mental health.
A huge thank you goes to every single lad who played. You’re all heroes. Giving up your Friday night, paying to play, bringing family and friends along, and supporting such an important cause is what makes this event so special year after year.
An incredible £2,500 was raised for Andys Man Club, a charity that provides free peer to peer support groups across the UK and Ireland, helping men through the power of conversation and reminding everyone that “It’s Okay To Talk.” The money raised will help support local groups, provide safe spaces for men to open up, and continue the charity’s life changing work supporting mental health in communities across the country.
A massive thank you also goes to Kayden for refereeing the match and doing a brilliant job throughout, and to Aaron for helping with timing duties before stepping in to play following a couple of first half injuries.
Most of all, thank you to everyone who came down, donated, sponsored, supported, laughed, watched, and helped create another fantastic night in memory of Chet.
See you all next year for Chet Cup 2027. 💛🖤
