CHACOMBE VILLAGE HALL WALK
SUNDAY 10th MAY

Leaving the Hall at 10.00

Please come along and see your local countryside up close and meet your fellow Villagers!

Remember that you can get a lift back from The 3 Conies if the full distance is too daunting.

As Brian wrote in the Chimes last month:-

We will be doing the walk in reverse this year as the stiles are easier in this direction.
For those only doing half of the walk. The plan will be to stop at the 3 Conies at around 12.30, which is the half way point for refreshments.
Those that struggle with the second half can be picked up here and taken back to the Village Hall.
We will meet back at the Village Hall around 4pm for drinks and cakes.
A cash donation would be greatly appreciated to cover cost for this.
The entire walk is 8 miles, with higher stiles on the second half. There aren't many dog friendly stiles, so come prepared to lift your pup over the larger ones.
I will walk the route the week before and post further details on the village Facebook
group.
For those not on Facebook, please see The Chimes nearer the date or email [email protected] for further details.
Thanks
Brian Riddell

Anyone lost this little squidgy fellow at the Village Hall?
I found him looking lonely and forlorn in the middle of the floor.
I've left him on the kitchen counter but ket me know if you need me to rescue him/her.

Sadly the appeal for anyone able to help out with some maintenance at the Village Hall hasn't brought any volunteers to the fore...

Now we have a problem that is beyond my capabilities (not difficult I know).

The water heater in the kitchen has started leaking and I failed to even get the cover off.

Do we have anyone with some ability in plumbing in Chacombe, willing and able to take a look at it?

If not we will obviously have to pay for a professional which is likely to hit our efforts of keeping hire charges down for everybody so I thought I would ask first!

Merry Christmas anyway ☃️🎉🎁

Cheers,

Bob

Chacombe Village Hall is maintained and functions as a charity which is run by a Committee of volunteers who generally meet once a month to ensure things are meeting the needs of the village.

We raise the money necessary to meet day to day operational costs, (heating, lighting, decorating and small improvements) through hiring out the building and facilities.

We do also like to run Village activities such as the quiz and games evenings for the Village when we can.

Larger improvements such as the new toilets requires more targeted fund-raising and seeking grants where possible (thank you again HS2!) - our next big objective is to improve the kitchen and internal storage facilities so if anyone has a few thousand pounds they'd like to donate please do let us know...

Our only paid "staff member" is our hard-working Caretaker/Cleaner, the rest is all down to people on the Committee or those we can rope in to help out with various tasks and projects as they arise.

To that end we could really do with someone to help with various maintenance jobs as they pop up from time to time as, unbelievably perhaps, it seems most of the Committee are getting older for some strange reason!

If you are able to help us with some time to do small jobs around the Hall and grounds please let us know. Feel free to pop in to see me at the Forge or email [email protected]

Many Thanks

Bob Blake (Chair)

Here is an odd one?...

The clock from the Main Hall has disappeared - does anyone know anything about this please?

We've already had the comments about time flies and we're worried about the "thief" coming back for seconds but it is also a serious concern as we do need a clock in there.

Thanks.

We’re all looking forward to Friday’s quiz. Are you joining us???

CAR PARKING AT THE HALL

A query was raised on Village Voice about parking at the Hall and I thought it may be worth sharing the reply here to hopefully clarify the situation... Bob Blake

Hi All,
As Chair of the Village Hall (I don't mean that to sound pompous) butI do need to say that parking at the Village Hall is by arrangement only.
Hirers of the Hall have priority and the car park is heavily used at times and particularly on Sundays.
We do have a gate because we did have a problem with illegal parking and use of the car park but usually leave it open as, for example, we encourage parents going to the school to park there but will lock it from time to time.
If you do want to use the car park at any time please email us on [email protected] or [email protected] or speak to me at The Forge and yes donations are always very welcome as we strive to keep the Hall going as a Village amenity.
Note if you would like to help with the running of the Hall new blood would be very welcome.
Thanks,
Bob Blake

🌳🚶‍♂ Chacombe Village Hall Walk 2025 🚶‍♀🌳

Many Thanks to everyone who came on the Village Hall Walk today (27th July 2025) - a really great turnout on a near perfect day for walking.

Thanks also to the wonderful cake makers who made more excellent cakes than we could reasonably expect!

The following was written by John Baldry who deserves a special big thank you from everyone for getting behind the organisation, including having the route checked out beforehand and producing a board advertising the event as you came into the Village, as well as having boundless sweets to motivate the younger members to do his quiz!

What a brilliant day we had on the 2025 Village Hall Walk! Over 30 of us – including lots of happy children and a record number of dogs – enjoyed a fantastic 8-mile adventure around our beautiful local countryside.

Led by Brian, we set off from the village hall, chatting and helping each other over the many stiles along the way. The children were buzzing, playing, and taking part in the “Find the Item” challenge, while villagers old and new got to know one another better.

We stopped in Wardington for some lovely refreshments, kindly provided by Mick and Rose – thank you both! Then came the trickiest part of the walk towards Thorpe Mandeville, with an overgrown path, some steep sections, and even a few enthusiastic horses joining us. Sorry Pete, there really were a few more stiles than promised! 😉

At the Three Conies, we took a well-earned break. And yes, Chris eventually got his drink too — after generously letting everyone else go first, both on the walk and at the bar. True village spirit! 🍻

The return route was mostly stile-free, with beautiful views and even some birdwatching for those keen-eyed among us. After a final push up the hill at Waters Lane (and some friendly “comments” from local residents!), we made it back to the village hall.

There, tea, squash, and homemade cakes awaited — the perfect end to a fantastic day. Huge thanks to everyone who helped organise and support the walk, and a special shout-out to all the children who completed the route, especially our youngest walker, Paige. Well done!

Let’s make 2026 even bigger and better — we’d love to see even more faces next year!

It's the morning of the Village Hall walk and the weather looks to be near perfect - no rain and not too hot or sunny!
Please remember that the Hall will be in use when we arrive outside for our 10.30 departure.
The 3 Coneys are expecting us and only ask that you don't take your own food inside the pub!
Cakes etc when we get back to look forward too and just remember THIS IS FUN!!!
