A busy weekend of local delicious music-making is in store. Oxhey Sounds Raises the Roof!

Our next event on Saturday 7 February is a fund-raising concert for the Methodist Church hall's new roof featuring the distinguished musicians of the Oxhey Sounds team: viola-player Virginie Guiffray, who also makes a rare appearance as vocalist, David Gordon Music on piano, and violin and accordion duo Anja Petkovic Milivojevic and Miloš Milivojević - Classical Accordion. If you haven't heard these artists before you can expect to hear music from French Romantic, Baroque and Brazilian repertoires, ending with a roof-raising set of Balkan tunes.

Next up, ahead of the Miloš Milivojević - Classical Accordion Serbian-born and Watford-based, in addition to his stellar solo career, Miloš finds time to be an invaluable part of the Oxhey Sounds and he and his wife Anja Petkovic Milivojevic played a gorgeous concert for the series a year ago. The sound of the accordion, or the bandoneon, is crucial to the sound of tango and Miloš embodies this - whether heart-rending, cheeky or tragic - in the most moving and individual way. Much in demand as soloist he also works regularly with orchestras, opera companies on film soundtracks and with groups including Kosmos Ensemble, Paprika and Classical Kicks Ensemble. Ahead of our next concert on Saturday at the Bushey & Oxhey Methodist Church, we're shining a light on the individual members of the London Tango Quintet who will be performing. Starting with Grammy-nominated Craig Ogden described by BBC Music Magazine as "A worthy successor to Julian Bream", Australian born guitarist Craig Ogden is one of the most exciting artists of his generation. He studied guitar from the age of seven and percussion from the age of thirteen. In 2004, he became the youngest instrumentalist to receive a Fellowship Award from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. One of the UK’s most recorded guitarists, he has accumulated an acclaimed discography for Chandos, Virgin/EMI, Nimbus, Hyperion, Sony and six chart-topping albums for Classic FM and regularly appears as soloist and in concertos across the UK and beyond. Keen to expand the repertoire for the instruments he has given countless world premieres as well as being involved in commissioning new works. A keen and brilliant chamber musician he is also Director of Guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Adjunct Fellow of the University of Western Australia, and Associate Artist at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester . Oxhey Sounds is thrilled to welcome the London Tango Quintet to the Bushey & Oxhey Methodist Church on Saturday 25 October at 7.30pm. An all-star band which includes Grammy-nominated guitarist , international accordion soloist (and Watford resident) Milos Milivojevic, , who achieved fame busking around the world with his violin but who also leads and has led session orchestras on many of our favourite film soundtracks, local boy David Gordon Music on piano and leading session bassist Richard Pryce, the group is drawn together by their love of tango - music of intense feeling, drama and tenderness. They are joined for this concert from France by beautiful singer Carmen Subiela. Not to be missed.
