Two key people! The Great Bungay Duck Race. Aside from the hard working Falcon Meadow trustees, the duck race committee and sub-committee members and of course their associate volunteers, there were two people who should be recognised for their outstanding contribution to this year's event. The first is Dan Chater, owner of ENDEAVOUR Transformations, and the second is Paul Wassell of YES TENTS. Both are local hard working business owners who gave their time generously and provided us with the motivation whilst instilling a great deal of much needed confidence! Thanks to all the businesses and puddleduck decorators who have supported us in our mission to keep the river clean this year by keeping all decorated ducks for displays purposes only.

It's caused quite a stir in the papers as we are among the first duck race to make such a bold move!

Rest assured that non decorated ducks WILL be racing on the day at 3pm, so we can still enjoy the spectacle of ducks drifting down the Waveney, safe in the knowledge that we are doing our best to look after the environment at the same time.

Up until this year, organisers of the race, which is being held on the River Waveney on July 14, invited local businesses and children to decorate and enter ducks in fancy dress as part of the annual event.

However, this year they are ditching tradition and will keep the brightly-painted ducks on dry land to save the environment and 2,000 unpainted ducks will take to the water instead.

According to race organiser, Allan Myatt while the heavily decorated ducks are eye-catching, they pose a threat to the waterways and the wildlife. When protecting our environment 'we know we can do more' and obviously we are far from perfect!

Hello there

Preparations for the Fifth Great Bungay Duck Race are ramping up and we have got number of sales opportunities taking place over the next few months. As ever, manpower is key and we are writing to ask if you would be happy to spare an hour or two to help us sell tickets and guarantee plenty of ducks on the water!

The sales dates for this year are:
Sunday 12th May, 9am - 3pm - Bungay Garden Market
Saturday 11th June, 11am-4pm - Earsham Fete
Friday 28th June - 8am - 7pm - Co-op
Sunday 7th July - 2pm onwards - Green Dragon 'Duck Fun Day'

If you are able to volunteer a two hour slot for any of these, we would be very grateful. Please email me on [email protected] and let me know your availability and we can arrange accordingly. Furthermore, if you know of anyone who might enjoy doing a stint for a good cause please do send them our way!

Invitation to Stall Holders & Concessions to attend a public event in Suffolk ‘The Great Bungay Duck Race’.

This Public Event takes place on Sunday 14th July 2019 at Falcon Meadow, Bungay, Suffolk NR35 2JG. Proceeds are in support of The Falcon Meadow Community Trust, a registered charity.

Expressions of interest from stall holders and concessions are now being invited from those wishing to attend this year’s event. In particularly we would like to attract applications from local people and businesses who are keen to enter the spirit of the occasion and promote their own specialities. This could include arts & crafts, local produce, wildlife, entertainment and rides and other county fayre activities.

The artisan town of Bungay is located in the delightful Waveney valley on the Suffolk / Norfolk Border. This well supported event holds legendary status in the Bungay social calendar and provides people and businesses with the chance to come together, so please join us on the day for music, food, stalls and white knuckle races…

With the closing date for entries just a few weeks away now is the time to get in touch. Please ‘contact us’ with details about yourself and your business, and most importantly what you will be bringing to the event.
