CHAPTER 3 – PEACE IN THE HOOD
Peace in the Hood Festival in Chitungwiza is a unifying celebration of Zimbabwean creativity, resilience and community spirit.

Chapter 3 looks back at how the partnership between Build the Peace and the festival began with a mural on Arcadia’s Dragonfly, before experiencing Peace in the Hood’s magic first hand.

CHAPTER 2 – ART EXCHANGE
The journey began at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, when a mural created in Chitungwiza became the Arcadia Dragonfly’s skin.

Three months later, Build the Peace presented a reciprocal mural to the people of Chitungwiza - painted on an ex-military satellite dish during Glastonbury. The dish was once part of Arcadia’s first Afterburner stage, now becoming the first seed in a new creation for the township’s Peace in the Hood Festival.

CHAPTER 1 – CREATIVE COMMUNITIES
Chitungwiza or ‘Chitown’ is a Zimbabwe township with an inspirational creative community. For our pilot Build the Peace project, we explore working together to forge unifying art and creative spaces from the relics of conflict - platforms for extraordinary local talent.

In the Chitown Diaries: Chapter 1, Vera, the Peace in the Hood Festival Coordinator, introduces us to her community.

An incredible moment - celebrating Bristol’s year as European Green Capital and launching the world’s first recycled biofuel flame system running off waste oil from local chip shops.

Beautiful to see more shows happening in Queen Square now - we’ll never forget the magic.
