A major new feature film, "Piteşti: The Experiment," is being screened at the Queen's Film Theatre (QFT), on 21st of November, 2025.

The film delves into one of the most severe political re-education processes in communist history—an event famously described as "the most terrible barbarity of the contemporary world" by Nobel laureate Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. This cinematic work offers a powerful and disturbing exploration of self-betrayal, faith, and the depths of the human psyche.

Crucially, the film was brought to life by three current and former members of Queen’s, demonstrating the high calibre of creative talent within the university: the Director, Victoria Baltag, is a current PhD Student in Film; the Sound Editor and Mixer, Miguel Ortiz, is a Lecturer in Design and Prototyping; and the Composer, Matt Geer, is a PhD Graduate in Music.

This powerful and historically essential film will be of particular interest to those interested in how the past is represented through history, commemoration, and film, as well as areas focusing on the extreme effects of punishment, the exploration of the human brain and psyche, and the dynamics of politics and social movements.

Following the screening, there will be a special Question and Answer session with Director Victoria Baltag and Sound Editor Miguel Ortiz, offering a unique opportunity to discuss the creative process and the film's historical context directly with the filmmakers.
