Ozzy Osbourne’s passing has stirred memories of Baston’s remarkable place in Britain’s live music story. Between 1966 and 1971, our village playing fields hosted an astonishing array of performers—many of whom would go on to shape the sound of a generation.
This chart lists the performances known to date during that time. It’s a snapshot of a golden era—one that deserves to be remembered! This list has been compiled from a variety of sources and archives, but if you spot any missing names, dates, or details, we’d be more than pleased to learn more!
From the raw power of Black Sabbath to the anthems of Thin Lizzy, Baston welcomed bands that later filled stadiums and topped international charts. Alongside them came Mud, Yes, and The Move, while rising talents like Roy Wood (before Wizzard), Christine McVie (before Fleetwood Mac), and Eddy Grant (long before Electric Avenue) found their footing here. Even Stanley Dwight—Elton John’s father—had ties to Baston’s own Beat ’69!
And if the names don’t all ring a bell, the songs surely will: Build Me Up Buttercup, Everlasting Love, Paranoid, Do You Love Me, Baby Come Back, Reflections of My Life, Silence is Golden, The First Cut Is the Deepest, Flowers in the Rain—and maybe even an early play of Whiskey in the Jar. These tracks still ripple through film soundtracks, TikTok trends, and family playlists—proof that their legacy lives on.
Were you there? Whether in the crowd, behind the scenes, or just passing through, we’d love to hear your memories. Share your story and help us keep Baston’s music history alive.
