NEW CYCLING CLUB IN KINTORE
Its official! Kintore has, once again, a Cycling Club.
The original Kintore Cycling Club fell by the wayside 50+ years ago, but now, thanks to the work of a group of experienced local cyclists, the town can proudly boast that we have a replacement. Garioch Road and Gravel (GRG), as the new club is known, is up and
running and accepting new members. And, already, the work of the founding members has been rewarded by Scottish Cycling, the governing body for cycle sport in Scotland, accepting their application for affiliation.
The “GRG” plan to bring a packed agenda of varied and regular road and gravel rides, and a regular social scene to cyclists of all levels of experience, and ability.
Planned rides will include:-
A Sunday Club Ride. This is a social ride where no one gets left behind. A different route every week which will vary in distance and intensity and will generally involve a coffee stop. Expect 40+ miles, with groups split to suit the average speed of the
riders.
Midweek Evening Gravel Rides running 52 weeks a year. 90 to 120 minutes of offroad fun. Again, no one gets left behind. Discover new trails while getting sweaty and muddy. You’ll be surprised at just how many traffic free tracks and trails there are in the Garioch. Come along and let us show you.
Road Training Sessions held weekly, from spring to autumn, to test your speed and endurance. Expect hard efforts! It is hoped that two or three different paced groups will be available each week.
Returners/Improvers/Beginners Ride on Monday evenings from spring to autumn.
Build your confidence in riding in a group, build your fitness and get to know your club mates. Again, no one will be left behind. Expect 90 to 120 minutes, generally on quiet back roads.
Big Days Out. Once a month during the summer it is Garioch and beyond! Expect a full day of cycling, with some big miles. Don't be surprised to hit a 100 miles for the day. Sometimes these will be road rides, sometimes gravel rides, and, sometimes, these will involve two café stops.
Sunny Cycling. Everyone enjoys cycling in the sunshine, so each year GRG plan to have a trip to the sun. Work has already begun on a trip to Majorca in 2026
Ladies Only Rides. As the club develops GRG is hoping to introduce regular ladies only rides.
Off the bike, GRG members can expect quarterly social nights, with some exciting events being planned.
