Helsinki, late April 2025. The main photo focus is obviously the dancing, but the set also includes a few more touristic ferry and Helsinki photos and several late-night clean-up photos.

I had a lot of fun in Helsinki, with enough time for both documenting and dancing. Thank you, organisers, for recruiting me, and thank you all lovely blues dancers!

After an amazing weekend full of quality live music and lovely dancing comes Monday, which means even more dancing if you’re up to it! We’ll have a little after party with DJ music at our regular Blues Dance Monday in pub Thirsty Scholar (Fabianinkatu 37) between 19-21 ish. Come have a last dance with your favorite dancers or sit down to chat with your new friends. The after party is free of charge and open to all.

We were spoiled with another fantastic party last night!
Today’s activities are:
13:00 Walk in Kaisaniemi Botanic garden with Suvi (meeting point entrance to the Botanic garden)
16:00 Sauna excursion to Uusi Sauna with Alina

The party will be at Hietsun Paviljonki (Hiekkarannantie 9)
19:00 Doors open
20:00 Live music starts with Helge Tallqvist Band and Queen Fatima
01:00 Party ends

We have a vappu theme at the Sunday party (see our previous post) and you can dress accordingly, think colorful, funny, mixing patterns, florals and such. We will serve some sima and munkki (Finnish mead and donuts), first come first served! There is no bar so you can bring your own drinks and snacks, you can also bring some snacks to share if you wish.

13:00 Improvised music session with Venla at Töölönlahti outdoor stage
13:15 Trip to Keskuspuisto forest with Marika FULL (meeting point in front of hotel Scandic Meilahti)

Party schedule:
19:15 Doors open
19:30 Taster class on Blues with a Jazzy vibe with Isabelle and Arja. Please be on time, no joining mid-class!
20:30 Live music starts, artists for tonight are The Sky is Crying (Sweden) and Ville “Little Willie” Mehto (Finland)
02:30 Party ends

We’re really looking forward to tonight because it’s time for our first main party!

18:45 Doors open at Musiikkitalo
19:00 Taster class on magical embrace by Arja and Nina. Please be on time, no joining mid-class!
20:00 Live music starts, artists for tonight are Constantine and the Call Operators (Finland) and The Sky is Crying (Sweden)
02:00 Party ends

There is cloakroom service (free of charge) and a bar where you can buy your preferred beverage. The taster class is open level and open to all The Grind participants, no registration needed. Our talented DJs will keep you dancing before and after the bands.

Our Sunday party is going to be a vappu theme party! But what is vappu? It’s a national holiday and celebration of spring, with extra focus on students and the working class, but pretty much everyone celebrates it. Usually you’d start the vappu celebrations already on the vappu eve, April 30, and continue during the next day, the actual vappu day, May 1.
Central to vappu are sweet delicacies such as sima and munkki (Finnish mead and donuts), colorful decorations, like balloons and paper streamers, and good party vibes. People gather to party and celebrate together, and the next day usually continues with a cosy picnic.

We’re going to kick-start vappu at the Sunday party so if you like, dress accordingly! Think lots of different colors, mixing different patterns, maybe throw some florals in too, or a funny hat. We will serve some sima and munkki at the party too, so be early!
