Carved from plum wood and shaped in a flowing sidewinder style, this eating spoon carries the warmth of hand tools and slow craftsmanship.
The handle is decorated with a subtle chip-carved circle, adding texture to the piece.

To deepen the natural tones of the wood, the spoon was treated in a baking soda solution, bringing out a richer, warmer color and highlighting the beautiful grain of the plum wood.

Simple, functional, and made to be held and used every day. 🌿🥄
Finished with a couple of thin layers of tung oil, always cured for a day in the sunlight.

Finally, this one made it ✈️ Down under.

A sidewinder-style wooden spoon, carved from beautifully spalted birch — full of wild grain, movement, and character. Asymmetrical, tactile, made to be used. An eating tool with its own personality.

The handle is decorated with chip carving, adding texture and rhythm to the form.

This spoon is part of a Spoon Swap I started at the wonderful .town Festival last year in 2025, when I met Mat. What began as a simple idea between makers turned into a quiet promise… and now, I’ve finally kept my part.

It has safely arrived in Australia 🌏 — a small object carrying time, intention, and connection across continents.

Better late than never.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of the book Decorative Spooncarving Techniques.

I had the wonderful opportunity to contribute an article about designing and carving lettering on wooden spoons — a topic that is very close to my heart. Seeing my work published alongside so many talented craftspeople is truly an honor.

This book brings together inspiring techniques and beautiful craftsmanship, and I’m grateful to be included among such skilled artisans.

Decorative Spooncarving Techniques has been available for about half a year now through Mortise & Tenon Magazine ().

It’s always a pleasure to see how a bit of roasting brings out the beauty of the cherry wood grain.

Just a test object, forks are fun and I was looking for a specific colour . So I needed a surface to play on. Did a little chip carving too inspired by a piece from .lawrence.uk .

Had an amazing last three weeks!

Just got back from England, where I was at the .town Festival and started working on this wooden piece.

I had the honour of meeting there and chatting with him about this very object — what kind of wood he looks for to carve a vessel like this, and how he splits the two parts.

It was such a great time in England, and I met some truly wonderful people.
Now that I’m back, I’m slowly finding the time to finish the projects I started. 🌿✨
