The 1st International Adolph K. Böhm Festival is expecting a magnificent vocal soloist, the American baritone Daniel Ihn-Kyu Lee, for its closing concert in the Kaisersaal of Kloster Banz.
Daniel Ihnkyu Lee is an exceptional Verdi baritone, celebrated for his powerful stage presence, rich bel canto voice, and accomplished musicianship. The New York Times has praised his performances, noting that he "sang with intelligence and resonant tone." He has performed a diverse range of roles at prominent opera venues and major concert halls worldwide.
Mr. Lee has performed a wide array of leading baritone roles, earning critical acclaim for his portrayals. His notable operatic roles include Dutchman in Der Fliegende Holländer at Fondazione Petruzzelli in Bari, Barak in Busoni’s Turandot at Fondazione Lirico in Cagliari, Marcello in La Bohème at Teatro Politeama in Catanzaro, Germont in La Traviata at Spoleto Festival, Amonasro in Aida at Cava La Beola di Monte, Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore, Germont in La Traviata, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto in Rigoletto at Teatro Zandonai in Rovereto, Oreste in Iphigénie en Tauride at Novaya Opera Theater in Moscow, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Chengdu Art Center in China, and Metifio in L’Arlesiana with Opera Orchestra of New York in Carnegie Hall, Carpentiere in Il Piccolo Marat with Teatro Grattacielo at Lincoln Center David Geffen Hall.
He covered the title role of Rigoletto, Nabucco at Arena di Verona Summer Opera Festival. Mr. Lee joined the New York Metropolitan Opera roster for a production of Don Carlo.
Mr. Lee made his successful European debut recital at the Prinzregententheater in the Bell'Arte Concert Series, Munich and Süd Deutsch Zeitung acclaimed him as "The Asian Thomas Hampson, with a magnificent voice that melds profundity with lyrical fluidity. His successful singing recitals were followed by the private concert series of Countess Schoenborn in Vienna and with the Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York.
Mr. Lee is a highly sought-after concert soloist. His concert highlights such as the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with New York AAC Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center Alice Tully Hall, Dona Nobis Pacem with the New England Symphonic Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, Sejong in Hunminjeongeum choral epic with National Chorus at the 14th Gwangju Biennale Opening Concert, Operngala concert in Musikverein in Vienna, 2021 New Year's Concert with the KBS Symphony Orchestra at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall, Gran Gala at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, and the Opera Gala concert at Arena di Verona, the New Jersey State Opera’s 40th Anniversary Concert the Genoa International Music Festival, United Nations 60th Anniversary

Daniel Ihn-Kyu Lee has won many competitions and received numerous awards, including Opera Index Competition, the Connecticut Opera Guild Competition for second place, The Puccini Foundation International Voice Competition for third place, the San Antonio Opera Competition for third place and Prize winner of the Caruso International Voice Competition and the career grants from The Laural Schwartz Foundation, the Olga Forrai Foundation and the Korean Cultural Center New York.
Mr. Lee received full scholarships to The Juilliard School, where he graduated from the Professional Studies Program under Daniel Ferro. He earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in music from the Korean National University of Arts. He also studied in the Santa Cecilia Opera Studio in Rome and the Renata Scotto New York Academy with Laural Schwartz Scholarship and The Korean Cultural Center New York Scholarship.
