In the production of monoclonal antibodies, the most expensive step comes after cell culture. And that is exactly where the market is.

Purification accounts for 50 to 70 per cent of process costs. So for suppliers of , , TFF and separation, efficiency here is what makes the difference.

The reason? A success story. Titres in cell culture have risen considerably – which means the downstream process has to handle far more material. In many places, available GMP-compliant methods are reaching their limits.

Larger plants won't solve this. A more efficient process will.

And investment is already shifting: 34 per cent of companies plan to invest in continuous chromatography, 39 per cent in continuous downstream processing in 2026.
