Cinna Peyghamy: Music For Tombak & Synth

This Sunday, the 7th of June, Tehran Contemporary Sounds presents the Berlin release concert of Cinna Peyghamy’s debut album Music For Tombak & Synth, released via Other People.

Five years in the making, the album brings together Persian tombak, modular synthesis, and digital signal processing in a work shaped through improvisation, live performance, and studio composition. Featuring collaborations with Quelque Bourdon, the sounds of Persian setar, and recordings of Cinna’s father reciting poetry by Ahmad Shamlou, the album unfolds as a highly personal exploration of sound and form.

Since witnessing Cinna’s unforgettable performance at Tehran Contemporary Sounds in 2022, we have followed this project closely and are delighted to host its Berlin release.

The evening will be supported by a DJ set from Marylou.

We are beyond excited to announce the Berlin release concert of Cinna Peyghamy’s debut album Music For Tombak & Synth, released via Other People.

Five years in the making, the album brings together Persian tombak, modular synthesis, and digital signal processing into a deeply personal body of work shaped through improvisation, live performance, and studio composition. Moving between acoustic and electronic sound worlds, the project reflects Cinna’s exploration of identity, family history, rhythm, and experimental sound design.

The album also features collaborations with Quelque Bourdon on clarinet, the sounds of Persian setar, and recordings of Cinna’s father reciting the poetry of Ahmad Shamlou.

Watching Cinna’s performance at Tehran Contemporary Sounds in 2022 instantly became one of our all-time favorite moments of the festival’s history. Since then, we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating on multiple occasions, and it’s been wonderful to witness the path that led to this release.

We are proud to host the Berlin concert for this remarkable debut album.

The night will be supported accompanied by a DJset from .dj .

Frequencies of Displacement

Closing the night: Falyakon.

Falyakon is a Berlin-based Palestinian artist whose work weaves traditional sounds with contemporary electronic music. As a flutist, selector, and sound artist, she crafts immersive soundscapes that fuse Palestinian field recordings with inventive production, honoring ancestral sounds while turning archival stories into intimate musical experiences that evoke memory and cultural continuity.

A deeply personal and atmospheric closing set for the first Frequencies of Displacement night.

“Above Our Waters”
A/V live performance by Dhia Douss & Qusay Awad, joined by Rand Abou Fakher.

An evolving multimedia A/V performance and research project by Dhia Douss and Qusay Awad , joined in this iteration by artist and filmmaker Rand Abou Fakher . Through field recordings, vocals, video and modular synthesis, the work drifts through the waters of the Mediterranean and what surrounds them, carrying myths, memories, and layered identities.

Frequencies of Displacement is a concert series by Tehran Contemporary Sounds, focusing on experimental sound and audiovisual practices shaped through displacement, rupture, and in-betweenness.

A commanding presence from the trio, carrying the room from the first sound.
Andi Toma’s electronic structures locked into Kurdish rhythms and pulse-driven percussion by Serdar Saydan, while Hani Mojtahedy’s voice cut straight through. Raw, physical, and unmistakably alive.

Tradition and electronics didn’t blend or soften each other here; they coexisted in tension, amplifying intensity rather than smoothing it out. What emerged was a performance driven by ritual force and propulsion. Grounded, fierce, and deeply affecting.

A powerful moment on Sunday’s program.

The first act of Sunday unfolded in a haze.
Sadaf H. Nava stepped on stage with a presence that felt lifted straight out of a David Lynch film — elusive, unsettling, quietly magnetic.

Her music moved somewhere beyond form: post-pop echoes pulled apart, melodies dissolving as soon as they appeared. Sound, imagery and gesture hovered in an unstable space, where nothing settled and everything remained slightly off-center.

A performance that resisted clarity and comfort, leaning into ambiguity, atmosphere, and intuition.
An opening that set the tone for the final day of TCS with confidence and depth.

A new set by 9T Antiope, pushed into darker territory and driven hard by Amir B. Ash’s visuals.
Cyberpunk aesthetics, scorched textures, collapsing systems — not a future dystopia, but one already in ruins.

The sound hit heavy and physical, the visuals didn’t illustrate — they pressed, distorted, overwhelmed.

Uncomfortable, loud, and fully committed.
A set that didn’t offer distance, only immersion.

Gaetha and Amir Torangan pushed sound to its edges — abrasive, dense, and relentlessly physical.

This was not about polish or restraint, but about pressure: for those attuned to distortion and overload, this was pure release. A joy for those who listen with their teeth clenched.

Zakhmé — World Premiere

An intense encounter between two radically different worlds.
Farzane Noori’s extreme digitality — driven by bodily movement, SuperCollider, and real-time synthesis — collided with Saba Alizadeh’s raw, analogue presence on the kamancheh, one of the oldest instruments of Iranian music.

What emerged was not balance, but a dialectic of impossibility, not resolving its contradictions, but exposing them as a condition between body and machine, memory and computation, tradition and abstraction. Visually precise, conceptually sharp, and musically uncompromising, Zakhmé pointed toward the unresolved im-possibilities of life itself.

Aida Khorsandi’s lecture-performance unfolded as a raw and physical encounter with sound. Modular synthesis, heavy beats, and fractured rhythms formed a dense sonic body, interwoven with spoken text and accompanied with visuals.

A work that moved between research and intuition, precision and rupture — staying deliberately unfinished, unstable and alive.
