"What a privilege to spend the weekend with this awesome English oak in its prime! At 25 m tall, 25 m wide and 1.5 m stem diameter, it has most likely been retained for the last 250 years or so to mark the boundary of this ancient working forest.
Though much of the woodland is currently managed with a very light touch, the special old trees here are few and far between. It struck me that, for future generations to be able to experience magnificent big trees, we have to make them special ahead of time. We must imbue them with value which can be appreciated by the widest possible cross-section of society - especially those with the opportunity to cut them down in the centuries to come
… even if it is just primarily as a property marker.
The Big Canopy Campout is doing such a great thing by enabling the making and sharing of tree stories. ‘Host to the Tincleton Hang Campout’ has now been added to the history and value of this beautiful beast, and I hope this makes it all the more special for everyone who knows." - James Holson
