Dudy nejsou jen nástrojem lidových tradic. Mohou vyprávět příběhy staletí i cestu hudby od minulosti až k dnešku.
Jean-Pierre Van Hees patří k nejvýraznějším osobnostem současného světa dud. Tento belgický hudebník, skladatel, badatel a pedagog se dudám věnuje už více než šedesát let.
Jako samouk začal hrát v roce 1965 a během své dlouhé kariéry se pohyboval mezi tradiční hudbou a současnou tvorbou. Spolupracoval s významnými soubory a jako interpret i pedagog se zasloužil o poznávání a uchovávání dudových tradic.
Je autorem rozsáhlé publikace *Un infini sonore* („Nekonečný zvuk“), ve které vytvořil jedinečný pohled na svět dud – jejich podobu, historii, vývoj i místo v hudbě a kultuře různých národů.

Bagpipes are not only instruments of folk traditions. They can tell stories of centuries and trace the journey of music from the past to the present day.
Jean-Pierre Van Hees is one of the most remarkable figures in today’s world of bagpipes. This Belgian musician, composer, researcher and teacher has devoted more than sixty years to these fascinating instruments.
He began playing as a self-taught musician in 1965, and throughout his long career he has moved between traditional music and contemporary creation. He has collaborated with renowned ensembles and, as a performer and educator, has contributed to the understanding and preservation of bagpipe traditions.
He is the author of the extensive publication Un infini sonore (“An Infinite Sound”), in which he presents a unique exploration of the world of bagpipes – their forms, history, development and their place in the music and cultures of different nations.
