Dear friends,
International 24-hour Aikido Marathon in Prague was supposed to start right now and we were ready to host many aikidokas from all corners of the world. Anyway, I am now sitting alone by my computer and not only our sport center but whole Prague seems to be completely empty.
The Marathon had to be postponed under the current circumstances regarding coronavirus and there are many changes going on all around the globe.
Right now we cannot travel, we cannot practice in our dojos, we cannot meet in person...
However the situation can be difficult for many of us, we are aikidokas - thus we are trained to keep our spirit and adapt to challenges and changes, both on tatami as well as in daily life.
I have feeling that now we have a real chance to practice aikido in ordinary human life. How can we ride the flow of the events and use it for our advantage and growth?
Our current events had to be cancelled or postponed. Let's stay in contact, move on and create even better aikido cooperation when restrictions end.
We are thinking of you, wishing you good health and good luck in these times. :)
Hope to meet you soon on tatami.

CANCELED: Aikido Marathon in April 2020 in Prague

Czech goverment banned all sport, cultural and social events with more than 100 participants from 10th March 2020. The reason is the situation with Coronavirus in Europe.

That means that we cannot organize the International Aikido Marathon in Prague in beginning of April 2020 :( and we have to postpone it to more appropriate times.

We are really sorry for all inconveniences.

The marathon will be in Prague later and we count with all of you and hope for your support. We are already thinking about alternatives now and hopefully we will let you know soon.

We would like to deal with the situation in aikido way - which means we will try to use this impulse to make the marathon even better event in future. ;)

STAY TUNED FOR THE NEW DATE OF MARATHON!

And the most important: we wish you good health!

I started practicing aikido in 2000. I was 13 years old. Before that I practiced Wushu, karate and swimming.
In my understanding, Aikido is Budo.I enjoy studying and practicing other martial arts. this broadens my horizons, gives a lot of inspiration and sets the vectors for the searching .
My first teachers are Victor Apolonov and Petr Ganchak. Today I am following and inspired by Stefan Stenudd, Stephane Benedetti, Takanori Kuribayashi, Zdenko Regul and others. I love studying, traveling and spend time with like-minded people.

I am one of the instructors of the headquarter dojo of the Romanian Aikikai Aikido Foundation. A TV show about Aikido was the sparkle of my passion for this martial art. I build myself and I discover new limits every time I am on tatami or I imagine I am on tatami.

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT SUCH OPPORTUNITY TO CHALLENGE MYSELF.
(stories from aikido marathon participants)

It was my first time to attend anything like this and to be honest, I had been scared. I didn´t believe that I could do more than couple of hours. Imagine my surprise when I practised for 12 hours and I felt good, alert and without any problems. I was also amazed by the organisation of the event. I even enjoyed lying down the tatami because we did it together and it was good fun. Everything ran smoothly, there was water, tea, fruit ready for us at each break and we had dinner and breakfast. In the end, I managed to practise for 18 hours and was very proud of myself. I am looking forward to next such opportunity to challenge myself.

A GREAT WAY TO TEST YOURSELF BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY
(stories from aikido marathon participants)

When my aikido master - Martin Frankovic - asked me to participate in the Aikido Marathon, I immediately accepted. What attracted me the most? The possibility of experiencing different styles of aikido in a short period of time: 24 hours. 24 hours, yes, that's a journey! It also meant 14 different masters and 14 ways of looking at aikido. Having done my first aikido seminars this year (Masuda Manabu (Jp), Radoslav Tmák (Sk), Mare Seye (Fr), Stefan Stenudd (Swd), I am becoming more and more aware of the varieties - even infinities - of aikido that we can try, so I saw Aikido Marathon as a great opportunity to enrich my aikido "vocabulary".

I did not have too many illusions - I am not 5th kyu yet - and I was rather concerned about the physical level. Practicing aikido for 24 hours without hurting myself and taking maximum pleasure, am I capable of it? It is, of course, not easy to summarize such an event in a few lines, but let me try.

Speaking of organisation, nothing to add, it was just perfect. We had a break (of variable duration) every 45 minutes which allowed us to drink, eat and stretch quietly. In addition, even if the rhythm was sometimes hard to keep, some of the senseis offered yoga training and contemporary dance exercises during the night. Very clever to keep the health of the aikidokas at their top!

Speaking of the atmosphere, there is nothing to complain about! This event was an opportunity to meet people from all over Europe: Czechs, Ukrainians, Swedes, Hungarians, Germans, ... and of course, Slovaks! In short, even if the physical challenge was sometimes difficult to hold - I only slept for 5 hours (but no injury) - the big advantage of this event was to meet people and to experience varieties of aikido styles. For example, I was able to make a contact with senseis from Sweden and Ukraine that I will probably meet on other seminars and some of them even invited me to come and practice in their dojo, abroad!

In summary, I strongly recommend this experience to all aikido practitioners, whatever their level. Aikido Marathon is a great way to test yourself both physically and mentally, but most importantly, it's a great opportunity to meet people and make contacts. I was the only French on tatami and, although I started aikido only a year ago, I took great pleasure in practicing over such a long period... period which, actually, seems to be very short!
