At Pioneer Works, PAF presents Bestiary of Darkness, a one-day event bringing together video installation, live performance, and experimental music. Developed in collaboration with Czech artists Valentýna Janů and Vojtěch Fröhlich, alongside PAF’s curatorial team, the project explores the shifting boundaries between moving image, the performing body, and architectural space. Featuring new work by Valentýna Janů and performance by Vojtěch Fröhlich, followed by a musical performance by Berlin-based project 33 (Billy Bultheel, alexander iezzi, Ivan Cheng & cemdukkha).

Founded in Berlin by multidisciplinary artists Alexander Iezzi and Billy Bultheel, 33 is a experimental "band" known for heavy electronics, industrial tonality and operatic voices. With 33’s most recent album tripolar (2026), the duo became a quartet, with live-show frontman Ivan Cheng and experimental musician CEM. The album culminates 33’s musical ambitions, embracing metal, jazz, techno, pop, and baroque inspirations through collaborative songwriting. tripolar features guest contributions from Danish composer Astrid Sonne, Kenyan experimental metal legend Lord Spikeheart, J-Pop vocalist Golin, and Irish goth-rocker Olan Monk. Between 2023 and 2025, the band presented critically acclaimed performances at venues that include ICA London, Rewire Festival, LOST Music Festival, CTM, Tremor festival, Jetztmusikfestival, and PAF Olomouc in Czech Republic.

Introducing the finalist works of Other Visions CZ 2026, curated by Edith Jeřábková:

"’s 'I'm a Man of No Faith, yet Here I Am, Confessing Mine' approaches manhood, male intimacy and masculinity in a very different way from Capitalism Can’t C★m. He deftly mixes his own fairly intimate confessions about whether he can feel love or experience faith with clips drawn mainly from the online manosphere (Brocast and others), where male freedom, wisdom, masculinity, sexism and racism are discussed, laid bare and promoted.
He also brings art into play as a field where manhood can meet genius, heroism, egotism, elitism and fear of the end. His stripping away of art’s romantic aura emerges in the juxtaposition of footage from his own graduation ceremony with excerpts from TV documentaries about artists. Between these documentary clips, he also slips in a conversation with his former girlfriend.
Everything is shuffled together to such an extent that we no longer know what he himself actually thinks about any of it. And do we need to know? Self-irony feigns intimacy, and post-irony conceals an opinion. Yet we still feel that, through this ironic self-exposure, he is inviting his colleagues in gender to join the search for male emotionality. Because we are all a little lost in this."

At Pioneer Works, PAF presents Bestiary of Darkness, a one-day event bringing together video installation, live performance, and experimental music. Developed in collaboration with Czech artists Valentýna Janů and Vojtěch Fröhlich, alongside PAF’s curatorial team, the project explores the shifting boundaries between moving image, the performing body, and architectural space. Featuring new work by Valentýna Janů and performance by Vojtěch Fröhlich, followed by a musical performance by Berlin-based band 33 (Billy Bultheel, alexander iezzi, Ivan Cheng & cemdukkha).

Vojtěch Fröhlich works with installations and live event gestures. Since his early works, he exposed himself to physically and mentally challenging situations often related to climbing. His practice is not only about the physical act itself – through quasi-ritual exercises, he examines and contextualizes situations that unfold for himself as well as his surroundings, while exploring the limits of art categories.

For several years, he has been developing Klub AVU, a project balancing on the line in between gastronomy, performance and live sculpture. In 2015, he was a finalist of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, and completed a residency at Villa Arson in France and at Triangle Arts Association in NY. In 2022, Fröhlich created the project Pauza in the closed Czechoslovak Pavilion during the Venice Biennale to raise awareness of the institutional system gaps.

Valentýna Janů’s installations, films, and performances are narratives full of hope and reflective essays in one. They address fundamental questions and challenges of life from a personal perspective, creating scenic arrangements that often feature moving image. Janů’s artistic focus revolves around choreographing the body within cinematic landscapes, drawing inspiration from popular culture to create unexpected societal fantasies while critically examining the interplay of stereotypes and archetypes, choices and clichés.

In 2018, she received the Other Visions award at PAF Olomouc and is the holder of the Jindřich Chalupecký Prize. Since 2021, she is co-head of the Intermedia Studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno.

On Monday, November 2, Bestiary of Darkness, a program of experimental performance art, video installation, and music, will be presented at Pioneer Works as part of PAF New York 2026 alongside Czech Center New York. ⁠

The programme features Czech artists Valentýna Janů and Vojtěch Fröhlich, whose works enter into a dialogue with the architecture of the venue, exploring the shifting boundaries between moving image, the performing body, and the surrounding space.

Valentýna Janů will present a new video work drawing on the culture of nocturnal performances and the visual language of neo-noir. At Pioneer Works, where the video was partly filmed, live performances by monina , Veyonce Deleon/Venus and Nina Tarr will periodically activate the video screening.

Known for athletic performances that challenge the boundaries of art, Vojtech Frohlich will scale the architecture of Pioneer Works. Starting on the first floor, he will move across the three-story building, revealing an alternate dimension shaped by its own spatial rules and forms of perception.

The evening will conclude with a live performance by a Berlin-based band 33 (Billy Bultheel, alexander iezzi, Ivan Cheng and CEM cemdukkha). Moving through metal, jazz, techno, pop, and baroque, they’ve performed at ICA London, Rewire, and PAF Olomouc.⁠

Through video works, sound and live actions, the event approaches darkness as a space of transformation, where images and bodies take on unpredictable forms. The programme extends PAF’s exploration of the moving image beyond the cinema, creating a live environment in which film, performance, and the spatial experience of the audience intersect.

Nicolas Gourault at PAF Olomouc 2026 – Bestiary 👹 December 3 - 6, 2026 | Olomouc, CZ

Nicolas Gourault is a Paris-based artist and filmmaker whose work explores the power structures embedded in technology and the ways digital tools can be used to investigate and document alternative narratives. He has collaborated with the research agency Forensic Architecture, and his work has been presented at institutions and festivals including Centre Pompidou, ZKM and Ars Electronica.

At PAF Olomouc 2026, two of his films will be screened: VO (2020), which investigates a fatal accident involving a self-driving car and the human workers behind autonomous technologies, and Their Eyes (2025), which examines how AI systems are trained to interpret the world through the labour of microworkers in the Global South. Gourault will also take part in an artist talk.

Nicolas Gourault je umělec a filmař působící v Paříži. Ve své tvorbě zkoumá mocenské struktury spojené s technologiemi a možnosti využití digitálních nástrojů k odhalování a dokumentování alternativních pohledů na svět. Spolupracoval s výzkumnou agenturou Forensic Architecture a jeho díla byla představena mimo jiné v Centre Pompidou, ZKM a na Ars Electronica.

Na PAF Olomouc 2026 budou uvedeny dva jeho filmy: VO (2020), který se zabývá smrtelnou nehodou autonomního vozidla a rolí lidských pracovníků při vývoji autonomních technologií, a Their Eyes (2025), jenž se zaměřuje na to, jak se systémy umělé inteligence učí interpretovat svět díky práci mikroworkerů a mikroworkerek z globálního Jihu. Součástí programu bude také setkání s umělcem.

Other Visions CZ 2026 🎀 Beata Kotrášová: Capitalism Can’t C★m

Introducing the finalist works of Jiné vize CZ 2026, curated by Edith Jeřábková:

"The docufiction Capitalism Can’t C★m uses infotainment to explore the overlap between social and digital pathologies in an age of systemic exhaustion. It addresses fragmented attention, the crisis of intimacy and polarisation of a radicalised society. At its centre is the satirical news show The Madness of Two (the title refers to a shared psychosis), which treats the podcast as a false emblem of truth and a mirror of late capitalism. Among other things, it offers an entertaining commentary on emerging social binaries through the phenomenon of so-called Real People: people seeking a return to ‘original humanity’ and physical heterosexuality (going feral), who reject modifications of body and mind. Under the pressure of algorithmic surveillance, phenomena such as the male loneliness epidemic and the toxic culture of ‘looksmaxxing’ become entangled with an existence lived as performance. The project reflects a world in which relationships, anxiety, and the very threat of apocalypse are turned into commodified content and marketing products for rapid digital consumption. Here, 4K, the image-resolution standard used in digital film and computer graphics, becomes the name of an era in which humanity has moved into the technosphere and holds its citizenship in the cloud. The film’s protagonists, Maddie and Skye, deliver their ‘feminist’ spiel at such breakneck speed that I had to pause it in places. It was worth it."

Jiří Havlíček & Martin Ožvold at PAF Olomouc 2026 – Bestiary 👹 December 3 - 6, 2026 | Olomouc, CZ

Jiří Havlíček is an artist and curator whose experimental films have screened at festivals including Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Oberhausen and PAF Olomouc. He published Teorie duchů (Theory of Ghosts) in 2018 and has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague since 2023.

Martin Ožvold is a Bratislava-born sound artist working across music, film, theatre, spatial installations and radio. He teaches at FAMU in Prague and pursues postgraduate studies in generative and computational art at Universität der Künste Berlin. His work has been presented at Berlinale, MUTEK San Francisco and Visions du Réel.

At PAF Olomouc 2026, they will present a project following their film Revue Kroky, transforming an almost empty apartment into a resonating audiovisual environment. Drawing on Mark Fisher’s hauntology and acid communism, they combine found objects, audiovisual waste and sound to explore unrealised utopian possibilities, turning the apartment into a space where darkwave meets political-magical technology.

Jiří Havlíček je umělec a kurátor, jehož experimentální filmy byly uvedeny na festivalech v Karlových Varech, Locarnu i Oberhausenu. Je autorem knihy Teorie duchů a pedagogem na AVU v Praze.

Martin Ožvold je bratislavský zvukový umělec věnující se hudbě, filmu, divadlu a prostorovým instalacím. Vyučuje na FAMU a jeho tvorba byla představena mimo jiné na Berlinale a MUTEK San Francisco.

Na PAF Olomouc 2026 představí projekt navazující na film Revue Kroky, který proměňuje téměř prázdný byt v rezonující audiovizuální prostředí. S využitím nalezených objektů, audiovizuálního odpadu a zvuku zkoumají v návaznosti na hauntologii a acidový komunismus Marka Fishera nenaplněné utopické možnosti. Byt se tak stává prostorem, kde se darkwave setkává s politicko-magickou technologií.

Europa is an interdisciplinary artist working across music, video and spatial practices. Blending sound and image with performance, design and installation, his work creates immersive audiovisual worlds shaped by experimental pop, electronic textures and personal songwriting. His releases include NOBEDIENCE (2024), released on Berlin-based label Transatlantic, and LAgoon (2026), out on Halcyon Veil. His practice often unfolds in collaboration with other artists, exploring music as a tool for shaping space, atmosphere and physical experience.

At PAF Olomouc 2026, Europa will present his latest album LAgoon, bringing together sound, visuals, scenography and movement in a live performance that transforms music into an immersive spatial experience.

Europa je interdisciplinární umělec pohybující se na pomezí hudby, videa a prostorové tvorby. Ve své praxi propojuje zvuk a obraz s performancí, designem a instalací a vytváří pohlcující audiovizuální světy, v nichž se potkává experimentální pop, elektronické textury a osobní songwriting. Mezi jeho releasy patří NOBEDIENCE (2024), vydané u berlínského labelu Transatlantic, a LAgoon (2026), které vyšlo u Halcyon Veil. Ve své tvorbě často spolupracuje s dalšími umělci a zkoumá hudbu jako prostředek k utváření prostoru, atmosféry a fyzického prožitku.

Na PAF Olomouc 2026 představí své nejnovější album LAgoon v živé performanci, která propojí zvuk, obraz, scénografii a pohyb a promění hudbu v pohlcující prostorovou zkušenost.
