【Dialogue on Global Energy Interconnection Held in Beijing
Domestic and Overseas Experts Communicate on "Global Interconnection - Smart Grids and Beyond" in Depth】From July 21 to July 22, State Grid and International Energy Agency (IEA) jointly held the Dialogue on Global Energy Interconnection in Beijing. At the dialogue themed by "Global Interconnection - Smart Grids and Beyond", the participants discussed the strategic concept of global energy interconnection, and carried on in-depth communication on the issues of energy, technology, economy and policy.
A total of 45 leaders and experts attended the dialogue, including foreign representatives from IEA, Delegation of The European Union to China, United States Department of Energy, Mongolian Ministry of Energy, British Embassy Beijing and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Republic of Korea as well as Chinese representatives from National Energy Administration, China Electricity Council, Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering, China National Renewable Energy Centre, China Association of Circular Economy, Tsinghua University, North China Electric Power University and Shandong University.
Upon discussion about future sustainable development of energy, global energy interconnection, grid connection of renewable energy and policies and technical foundations for global energy interconnection, the participants held that global energy development was facing the serious challenges of resource shortage, environmental pollution and climate change, and clean alternative, electricity alternative and global energy interconnection were essential for clean development, climate change combating and sustainable development of human society. As they indicated, State Grid has permanently been dedicated to development of clean energy, and made remarkable achievements in technical innovation and engineering practice of UHV, smart grid and new energy, laying a solid foundation for global energy interconnection.
Paolo Frankl (Director of Renewable Energy Division of IEA), Simon Muller (Senior Analyst of Renewable Energy Division of IEA) and Simone Landolina (Executive Director of International Cooperation Division of IEA) respectively made a keynote speech on large-scale access and grid connection of renewable energy as well as development of smart distribution network. As they emphasized, grid interconnection is crucial for development of sustainable energy, and transnational and transcontinental grids are a development trend. Given this, a flexible energy system should be built to keep reliable operation of system after large-scale grid connection of renewable energy. Angarag Myagmar (Head of Mongolian Ministry of Energy) and Jung Yonghun (Energy and Environment Consultant of Industry and Energy, Republic of Korea) introduced the concept of Asian super grid and the South Korea's experience in building of smart grid, respectively.
As proposed by Wang Zhongying (Deputy Director of Energy Research Institute, NDRC), the shares of renewable energy in energy consumption and total generated energy should be higher than 60% and 85% by 2050, respectively, and smart interconnection of energy must be accelerated. On the basis, the civilization of human society should be promoted to a higher level with clean water and blue sky restored by improving electricity utilization at energy terminals. The experts from State Grid Energy Research Institute, State Power Economic Research Institute, China Electric Power Research Institute and State Grid Smart Grid Research Institute respectively made a keynote speech on concepts, resource conditions, economic performance and technical equipment of global energy interconnection, and systemically introduced importance, feasibility and prospect of global energy interconnection. Upon in-depth communication, the participants highly identified with and placed high hopes on the concept of global energy interconnection.
During the dialogue, foreign experts visited the "National Wind-PV-Storage-Transmission Trial Project" and National Energy Large-scale Wind Power Grid-Connected System R&D (Experiment) Center, and highly praised the achievements made by State Grid in development of renewable energy. As the world's largest new energy comprehensive utilization trial project integrating wind power generation, PV power generation, energy storage and smart transmission, the "National Wind-PV-Storage-Transmission Trial Project" adopts the technical route "wind -PV-storage-transmission combined power generation" innovatively in the world, successfully realizes smooth output in new energy power generation, and answers the global question of large-scale development of new energy. As the world's largest wind power test base technically advanced, National Energy Large-scale Wind Power Grid-Connected System R&D (Experiment) Center is comprehensively capable of LV through fault test, grid adaptability test and study on the "wind -PV-storage-transmission combined power generation", and powerfully and technically supports independent R&D of wind power and healthy development of the industry in China.
With high attention to and identity with the concept of global energy interconnection proposed by State Grid, IEA is willing to get involved in realizing the strategic concept, and make positive contributions to sustainable development of energy in the world. On July 22, State Grid and IEA announced, the two parties would jointly set up Global Energy Interconnection JWG to offer a platform for international communication and cooperation, jointly carry out in-depth research and cooperation, and push forward innovative development of global energy interconnection.
