But this year, we wanted you to be part of the story. Carlos & Ivana picked one of the questions you left us on stories:
💬 You asked.
Do you feel pressure of competition killing the soul of social dancing?
✨They answered:
For us, the “soul” of social dancing is the connection with a random partner, dancing freely to a random song.
Aaand… Competitions can definitely make it harder to connect with your partner. Because there’s an audience, judges, pressure—and all of that can take your focus away from the connection. Also, connection can show up in very subtle ways. Some of the deepest moments aren’t very “visual,” which means they might not be noticeable from the outside. As a result, it can look less impressive, and judges might overlook it or score it lower.
But we don’t think competitions automatically destroy social dancing. This is where our responsibility as dancers comes in. We choose how we enter these spaces. We can decide whether we focus only on performance—or whether we stay grounded in connection, presence, and respect for our partner.
Because is not only about the stage. It’s about the people, the stories, and the journey behind the dance.
