Introducing: Mise.

For the past few years, I’ve been building a studio practice rooted in craft, intention, and function.
What started as Cynical Ceramics Co. has slowly evolved — in style, process, and purpose — into something more refined and focused.

Today, I’m proud to share the next chapter: Mise.
Inspired by mise en place — the philosophy of everything in its place — this name reflects my approach to making: thoughtful, simple, and made for real life.

I’ve become most passionate about handcrafting timeless tableware — pieces that quietly support everyday rituals, gathering around food, and the act of coming together to break bread.

Since stepping away from a 15-year corporate career just over two years ago, this journey has been about finding a slower, more grounded rhythm. From opening The Clay Warehouse to refining my ceramic voice, each step has brought me closer to this point.

Mise feels aligned with where I’m headed — simple, editorial, and rooted in the beauty of form and function.

I’m settling into the new brand and will be launching with an online sale of my newest grey stoneware collection, along with past work that I’ll be clearing out.

My online shop will open Friday, July 4th — all pieces will be available then.

(Formerly Cynical Ceramics Co. — if you’ve been following along, the page might look a little different, but I’m still here, still making, and more excited than ever about what’s to come.)

Thank you to everyone who has supported my work so far — I’m looking forward to the evolution of this practice, new collaborations in the culinary world, and connecting with thoughtful shops and creatives who share a love for beautifully made things.

This past year, I’ve had the pleasure of participating in a few wood and soda firings alongside an incredible community of potters. I’ve struggled to photograph these pieces in a way that truly captures their depth—but we managed to sneak in a few shots during a recent photoshoot.

These surfaces tell a story: layers of ash, flame, soda, and time. I could study them for hours and still discover something new. It’s hard to imagine parting with any of them… though I might let a few go, and hold on tight to the rest.

Thanks to & for inviting us into your merry crew, and for guiding us along.

Been a while since I’ve made a teapot, here’s three with different type lids 😅 I’m thinking of putting on a teapot workshop; it’s probably the one item I get asked most to teach on

Narrowing in on the next collection—putting the final touches on this body of work. I’ve spent countless hours refining these pieces, tweaking designs to perfect their functionality, and adjusting the clay body to achieve just the right look and feel. By incorporating a touch of raw manganese, I’ve maintained a crisp, contemporary aesthetic with a subtle speckle for added character—and I’m absolutely stoked with the results.

This collection features a unique grey stoneware with a glossy, opaque white glaze, creating a beautiful balance of softness and structure. The process has been full of trial and error—redrawing forms, adjusting dimensions, and making sure every shape feels just right. Some call me crazy for my obsession with precision and consistency, but honestly, this stage of design is one of my absolute favorites.

Excited to share more soon!
