The big tragedy on Saturday night is if you were unfortunate enough to miss out hearing Tragedy Ann here at SchmidtHaus. Liv and Braden bring a fresh take on folk, with unique instrumentation and songs that are somehow both relevant today while also harkening back to ages past. We were all spellbound. Also, they're pretty awesome in the kitchen!

Guitars, and organs, and saws oh my...
Yup...traveller pump organ, accordion, and a singing saw ~ so many neat things in store for us!

Tragedy Ann is in da'haus! And besides their awesome music, they're a couple of really cool humans - you really should come hang out with us tonight - your soul will thank you.

* feel free to chill with us after too ~ rumours of mini "impromptu" singing saw lessons post-show ;-)

Heya friends,

Our names are Liv and Braden, and together we are Tragedy Ann from Guelph, Ontario - we hope this note is finding you cozy, perhaps with a warm beverage nearby.

We're fresh-off-the train to BC, and are reaching out to invite you to our Home Routes concert on Saturday, November 29 at SchmidtHaus. We can't wait to be coming through your neck of the woods presenting what we call "Forward-looking Folk" and we'd love to see you there.

But what, exactly, would you see there? Well, we'll be sharing songs and stories that evoke compassion, curiosity, and empathy. We love relishing in moments of near pin-drop silence as much as the catharsis of any belted chorus.
As a duo we'll be singing together, as well as playing a traveller's pump organ, singing saw, guitar, and accordion. (And yes, it can all fit in the car!)

Liv also loves teaching people how to play the singing saw after concerts, if you're keen to give it a go!

We were recently honoured to have our last album, Heirlooms, nominated for two Ontario Folk Music Awards (Recording Artist of the Year & Music Video of the Year) and are thrilled to be sharing songs from Heirlooms, alongside some brand new material.

We can't wait to make our way to you, and are happy to be in touch in advance, should you have any questions about what to expect. Our website is tragedyannmusic.com and you can always reach us at [email protected].

Travelling (safely) in your direction,
Liv & Braden @ Tragedy Ann

Tragedy Ann ~ Folk With Purpose (in Anmore)
Saturday November 29th, 7:30 pm

Tragedy Ann is a compassion project from Guelph, Ontario, led by songwriters Liv Cazzola and Braden Phelan. Blending pump organ, guitar, accordion, and harmony-rich vocals, they craft songs that invite curiosity, empathy, and reflection. Their music is less about answers than about asking meaningful questions, drawing listeners into stories that feel both familiar and boldly forward-looking.

Their acclaimed albums Matches (2018) and Heirlooms (2022) showcase their orchestral folk sound and poetic depth. Tragedy Ann has Slow-Toured across Canada and abroad, performing everywhere from living rooms and backyards to the National Arts Centre, Celtic Connections (Scotland), Clonakilty International Guitar Festival (Ireland), and even a Belgian horse centre. Beyond Tragedy Ann, Cazzola and Phelan collaborate widely, appearing with The Lifers, contributing to peers’ albums, and facilitating workshops that nurture community through music.

What a great way to kick off another Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous season here at SchmidtHaus! I mean, sure, it was a couple weeks ago already, but wow, what a great evening. Lache Cercel is not only an amazing violinist, he also loves to share the history of Roma Jazz, intertwining the musical and historical in such an engaging way. If you get the chance, definitely check out his Roma Jazz ensemble!
