All my life, I’ve listened and learned; most of all, I’ve tried my best to apply what I’ve learned, in a committed way, not just in my many years serving as a police officer, but also in helping to grow the soccer community here in Stratford and develop soccer facilities for families all over the city. People tell me that the ability to listen well and then acting on what I’ve learned, has added a
few good things to the Stratford mix. These days, I work as a victim services worker, assisting and supporting victims of crime to navigate the criminal justice system. I have a solid network of friends, colleagues, and people from all walks of life, who I’ve listened to and learned from over the years; from them I’ve learned the power of consensus to get things done—and, most importantly of all, how trust makes magic happen, how small wins become big ones when we work together. One thing I do know for sure: I know a little about how to make a difference for good. Good things happen when we commit to making that difference. Stratford’s at a fascinating crossroads just now, with problems big and small to be worked out and worked on, from a sustainable economy to attracting talent to the city and growing our remarkable blend of art and industry mindfully and profitably.
