In Memory of Frank Delano
It is with profound sadness that the Child and Youth Care Association of Newfoundland and Labrador shares the news of the passing of Frank Delano.
Just last month, many of us had the privilege of gathering with Frank at the World Child and Youth Care Conference. As always, he brought his warmth, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the Child and Youth Care profession. He spoke about different generations of Cyc's working together and understanding how we can be our best through feedback and partnership. It is difficult to imagine that someone who was so present, so engaged, and so deeply connected to our community is no longer with us.
Frank's contributions to Child and Youth Care spanned decades. He was a respected mentor, educator, leader, and advocate whose influence reached practitioners, students, and educators around the world. Through his writing, teaching, and countless conversations, he reminded us that the heart of our work lies in authentic relationships, compassion, and a steadfast belief in the potential of every child and young person.
Frank also held a special connection with Newfoundland and Labrador. Over the years, he supported and encouraged our provincial Child and Youth Care community through conference participation, collaboration, and friendship. His time with us strengthened our profession and inspired many practitioners to continue growing in their practice and leadership.
For those who attended the World Child and Youth Care Conference, Frank's presence is now a cherished memory. We are grateful that so many had the opportunity to learn from him, laugh with him, and share time together. None of us could have known that those moments would become our last.
On behalf of the Child and Youth Care Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, we extend our deepest condolences to Frank's family, friends, and the global Child and Youth Care community.
Frank's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the practitioners he mentored, and the profession he helped shape. May we honor his memory by continuing to practice with the kindness, integrity, curiosity, and humanity that he embodied every day.
Rest peacefully, Frank. Thank you for all that you gave to our profession and to each of us.
